Dear Cousins, It was good to become acquainted again, after so many years, at Uncle John’s funeral. I say “again” because I assume that we must have shared the grass at Niagara Glenn as children at those sprawling family reunions many years ago. I did not know your father well, as we did not see him and Aunt Anne often. It was hard to get 11 kids in the car to travel the 60 miles or so that separated us. Now, for me, that distance from Orangeville is even greater. But when my sister Pat told me that your father, then a bachelor, drove all the way to our farm outside of Guelph to visit my mother and greet me into the world at my birth, I knew I had to make the trip to St. Catharines to honour his passing from it. Though I did not know Uncle John well, I will always remember him as a kind and gentle man, much like our Grandpa, who was always interested in us and what we were up to. Kids pick up on that kind of thing. They intuitively sense who cares about them, and that’s the kind of person your dad was. I look forward to getting to know him better in heaven. Our condolences to you, your children and Aunt Anne. Cousin Gary
