Obituary of Walter Harry Cheel
Cheel, Walter Harry - Lived a full and productive life right into his 88th year, passing joyfully from this world into the next, October 10, 2015. Walter was born in St. Catharines. He was predeceased by his parents William and Miriam Cheel and brothers Alfred and Sidney. He is survived by his wife Gwynnyth Cheel (nee Allam), and sons David (Sharon) Cheel and Philip Cheel, as well as daughters Holly Cheel, Alison Cheel, Rosemary Arthurs, and Judith (Chris) Dayaram. Walter was an affectionate, caring man, with more than enough love to go around, and has created a wealth of happy memories with, and for his many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Walter was a real 'People Person' making acquaintances easily and becoming a cheerful friend to all. He would stop to chat with the clerk at the grocery store, his server at the restaurant, the person next in line at Tim Hortons, or the person servicing the furnace. Everyone who met him remembered him. Walter was employed at Bell Canada for many years and was affectionately known as 'Wally.' It was a job he loved and enjoyed until retirement at the age of 60. In 1964 Walter moved his family from St. Catharines to a 50 acre farm in St. Anns where he enjoyed the joys and challenges of farming and raising beef cattle. Walter found his 'Retirement Job' at MacDonalds Steel Ltd in Cambridge, Ontario and arose at 5 a.m. every morning to make sure he was on time for work. He continued this job until he suddenly lost his eyesight and was unable to drive. Being legally blind was frustrating, but certainly didn't slow him down. Over the years Walter enjoyed rebuilding his barn, maintaining his beautiful lawns and gardens and in the past few years, developing a small egg business for his family and friends. Walter's deep love for his family was well known, but above all, his number one passion was his love for Jesus Christ. The family is grateful to the Stroke Unit at Greater Niagara General Hospital for their kindness, compassion, and gentle care of our beloved husband, dad, and grandfather.
The family will receive friends at the Vineland Chapel of TALLMAN FUNERAL HOMES, 3277 King St, on Wednesday, October 14 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, October 15 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, P.
