Doug and Clarisse lived beside us for several years here in Heritage Village. They were a devoted couple, pleasant to know and good neighbours. We missed them both when health forced their move. I remember Doug laughing about the years they spent here in Heritage Village, saying many years before they moved here that it was a place for "old people". He would express surprise that they had become old people. Doug will be content now, for I'm sure that he has sorely missed his Clarisse.
Be at peace good neighbours!

What a pleasure it was to know Douglas and hear all his stories about his time in the service. His sense of humour was always present no matter what else he was going through. Fly with the angels now Douglas and be with you’re Clarisse. You will be missed.

Very sorry to read of Doug's passing. When I joined the Beamsville Lions, he was the first to Welcome me to the club, right behind my sponsor. When Doug learned that I was from a Military Family, most every conversation thereafter had a healthy dose of Military lore involvement. Doug was both an Officer and a Gentleman.
Not too many like him.
RIP, Major!

I am very sorry to learn of Doug's passing. The Burton family are well known for volunteering in the Town of Lincoln helping out at many events for many years. Doug was so often a mentor to me and was always kind, patient and did it all with a wonderful sense of humour . As I will, he will be missed.

Doug was a great friend to me!! I treasure my connection and will forever be grateful for having him in my life!!! My first memory mtg Doug and his brothers was in 1989 when I was just hired to work at CCWN. After a few rocky mths at the start of my employment, our organization was being overwhelmed with donations!! As I arrived one morning to work at Trinity house outside by the doorway was a pile of donations of a couch , chairs and piles of clothing!!! I stood in tears what was I to do!! My Burtons arrived to my rescue, all they asked for was a pie and coffee!! So it began our many adventures of laughter, stories, hard work and fun!!!
Much love and prayers to his family you truly have lost a magnificent person!!!

Dear Linda, Gary, Madeleine, Cadence, Richard, Donna and Jacqueline,
I have so many memories of Uncle Doug. With a family so large and jovial - how could you not? I loved reading his Obit because despite knowing all these things about him, I had forgotten what a whirlwind life the forces had given him. He was always so funny and quick with his wit. One of my favourite memories is the year we travelled by train to visit you all in Ottawa. Must have been 1982-ish... the house was packed. I am not even sure how you had room for us. We played cards and more cards, listened to 45-speed records, visited museums and all the time he just kept saying... "You crazy kids..." We laughed and laughed. And the best years were high school when you all moved again to Vineland and we could be so much closer. He and the Burton brothers could be together again and thus began many years of community service in Lincoln. I am so proud of him and will miss him dearly.
