Obituary of Robert Lane
Robert (Bob) Lane
March 28, 1935 – April 3, 2024
One week after his 89th birthday, Bob – husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend – slipped peacefully into eternity.
Bob was born in England, but immigrated with his family to Hamilton Ontario, where he later met and married his wife Patricia (Pat), raised a family, and retired after a long career at the Steel Company of Canada.
Life wasn’t always easy, but throughout the years Bob experienced much joy and pride in his children (4), grandchildren (9), and great-grandchildren (23). He loved to spoil the little ones with gifts, treats and surprises, and reveled in their accomplishments and successes as they grew up.
After Pat died in 2001, Bob found love and companionship again with Margaret (Maggie) Tomlinson and enjoyed the addition of more family (2 children, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren) that became a big part of his life.
While healthy, Bob enjoyed family and friends, travel, woodworking, and community involvement. In his later years, and despite his deteriorating health, Bob tried to remain active and continued his daily trips to Tim Horton’s and walks with his beloved dogs. He also delighted in time spent with his very dear and loyal friend, Steve.
Bob will be remembered by many as a friendly and outgoing man with a broad smile and a sharp wit. He enjoyed people and loved to make them laugh.
Sadly, Bob experienced a health crisis last fall, after which his health continued to decline. During that time Bob appreciated the exceptional love and care he received from Maggie, his granddaughter Kathleen, and the many caregivers who supported him and showed him compassion until the very end.
A private family service is planned, but friends are welcome to join us for a time of remembrance and refreshments in the Fireside Room of Tallman’s Funeral Home, 3277 King St. in Vineland, on Wednesday April 10, 2024, between 12:00 noon and 1:30pm.

Following the luncheon, Bob will be laid to rest at the United Church Cemetery in Smithville, for anyone interested in attending.
Donations to the Good Shepherd Centre of Hamilton, in Bob’s memory, would be appreciated by the family.
