Obituary of Peter Jakob Aarsen
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, father-in-law, Opa, and great-Opa, Peter Jacob Aarsen on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at the age of 90.
Peter was born on June 13,1933 in Holland to Leo and Anna Aarsen. He was the 4th of 9 siblings. He worked on tugboats for 1 year in Halifax when he arrived in Canada and loved it. Wanting a better life brought him to St. Catharines, where he purchased a house and worked as a Foreman at Seneca Manufacturing for 35 years until he retired at 65.
Peter loved to joke around and make everyone laugh. He was a hard-working man and gifted in wood working. He constructed his own garage creating a woodshop for himself. There he built his kitchen cabinets, bird houses and lighthouses amongst other things. Peter also had a talent for yodeling which he only shared with his grandchildren. He was a man of many talents!
Peter was intrigued by eagles. He once encountered two flying above him where he lay sleeping and never forgot the expanse of their wings and strength of their claws. This encounter amazed him and left a lasting impression on him.
Peter recently accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He acknowledged that he believed, and that salvation doesn’t come from our good deeds or by doing anything special, it’s a free gift from God because he loves us so much. By doing so, he received salvation and eternal life.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Olga Elly (Krugel) Aarsen; his daughter, Shawna; his step-children, Vic & Hannelore, John and Frieda and Peter and Ursula; and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 11am at Tallman Funeral Homes Ltd., 3277 King St. Vineland, with visitation one hour preceding the service.
