Great memories of someone that was as close to me as one might be to their grandmother! I worked at "The Bird's Nest" on Locust Lane in Beamsville in the late 80's (1987 to about 1991) - it was my first job and I was 12, making $2.50/hr. Ivy was a wonderful lady and took great care of me. I never had to bring a lunch to work, it was always provided, and it was always good. We'd start our day at 8, have a 15 minute break at 10 and 3:00, and an hour lunch, ending at 5. Always clockwork with Roy.
I really appreciated my time with Roy and Ivy - I would say they had a major impact on my life. I learned much from Roy, and Ivy too. I will never forget them.
I am sorry we lost touch when Ivy moved from Grimsby and thought that perhaps Ivy passed years ago. Otherwise I would have loved a last visit. Ivy was a name at the top of the list when we had a girl - had we had another, I'm pretty sure she would be an Ivy too!
My brother Neil also benefitted from Ivy's hospitality when he took over my place on the farm.
Greetings to the family and I hope you enjoy all the fond memories of your mother. Blessings.

Good afternoon Bird family. What a great long age for Ivy to have lived to! My brother Bart first worked for the Bird's in grade and high school, and I followed when he moved on. Your father is someone I often remember and think about while I do my work (he used to have many sayings, one was "A place for everything and everything in it's place!")
Your mom waited on us with breaktime snacks and lunch, and was like a second mother to me. What good memories! My condolences to you all!

I got to know Ivy when I owned Cherry Lane Fabrics in Beamsville (early 1990's). Ivy and Jackie were a great help to me during that time. Jackie was a trusted employee. Ivy gave me much advice and yes, I did buy a sewing machine from her. I cherished the
many times we kept in touch during the years after I closed the store. She was a gracious lady and I truly valued her friendship. My condolences to the family.
