Obituary of Aleksander Prokich
PROKICH, Aleksandar 1918-2017. Peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2017. Born in Kicha near Temeswar, in Banat, Romania to Zarko and Marija Prokich. Initially mobilized into the Romanian Army during World War II, subsequently joined the Soviet Army. Made his way through Europe on foot and immigrated to Canada in 1951. Married the late Angelina Prokich (nee Macri) in 1954 and taught school for 24 years in the Niagara Region. During retirement he wrote short stories in his native Serbian. Survived by sister Darinke Bogdanic, Teslic, Bosnia, nephew Aleksandar Bogdanic (Maja) Banjaluka, Bosnia, niece, Biljana Bogdanic May (Jim) and grandnephew Aleksandar May, Clermont, Florida. Predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law Michael and Lina (nee Furfaro) Macri, George and Mary (nee Nasso) Macri, Mary (nee Macri) and Gabriele Iannantuoni, Ralph and Patricia (nee Simonetta) Macri, James and Mafalda (nee Costarella) Macri and survived by 23 nephews and nieces. The family thanks the nurses and staff at Albright Manor for their care and support.
Mr. Prokich is at the Beamsville Chapel of Tallman Funeral Home, 4998 King St., Beamsville, where his family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 19 at 2-4 and 7-8.30p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00a.m. at St. Helen Church, 4106 Mountain Street, Beamsville. Rite of Committal at Mount Osborne Cemetery, Beamsville. Donations will be accepted by St. Helen Church and McNally House in lieu of flowers.
