Hello Lucy, Vic, Debbie and Joannie,
My sympathies on the loss of John . Lucy and John were great friends with my parents near the ends of their lives. The last time I saw John was at a Grebel event a few years ago when Ellery was a student there. He remembered me.
I now work for MCC in church relations. Thank you for making MCC a recipient of donations made in his honour .

Dear Lucy and family,
Our prayers are with you during this busy season as you mourn the loss of John yet also celebrating a wonderful sharing life he had. I got to know John mostly through Ten Ten Thousand Villages activities. He was so helpful and caring, very respectful and sweet. I only wish I could have heard him sing more. I have heard him sing with the Peach Pickers a few times long ago at church and always loved it!
God Bless you and keep you in his care during this difficult time.
Sincerely
Anne

John and Lucy were the first neighbours to welcome us to the neighbourhood 3 years ago. Lucy brought delicious peach tarts and John introduced them saying " we are Lucy and John Harder. That's harder not softer". They welcomed us and their door is always open. John was a gentle man and a gentleman. He was always cheerful despite his health issues. He will be missed. Our thoughts prayers and love go out to them and their family.

John was the essence of class, integrity, and humility. The Lincoln County Peach Picker CDs accompanied me many times as I delivered cars to Florida. In fact, they played at our wedding 50 years ago! To Lucy and the entire Harder family, Ella and I convey our sincere condolences!

After leaving school early in life my parents were content to know that
John Harder would be my first employer. Along with Henry VanAtte and
Norman Howard they owned and operated Dick-Harder Motors. They ran a clean and efficient operation where courtesy and manners mattered.
I will always credit John with laying the cornerstone of my working life.
In his life he was there for people’s greatest needs. So-long my friend and
may God hold you now.

John was a gentleman. For many years Newark Motors cared for my vehicles where John's thoughtful, quiet ways provided his clients with confidence. We trusted Henry and John who kept us and our cars and us safe. Later, whenever I saw John in the street he always greeted me with a warm smile of remembrance and genuine questions of concern and interest. We will miss this kind, gentle man. May his spirit rest in peace.

John has run the race victoriously. We too are sorry for your loss, Lucy , but you know that he has arrived . We knew each other for many many years , from Newark Motors to the present. John's life reminds me of Psalm 23, and that is how he lived .

We remember John as a kind, loving and very talented person.
I (Sylvia) have never forgotten how his ethical nature was so important to my mother, when she purchased her first car when she was in her 40's. She had just learned to drive, and it meant so much to her to trust that Dick-Harder Motors would take good care of her vehicle, and not take advantage of her lack of understanding of anything to do with automobiles.
It is also so good to have lasting memories (CDs) of John's wonderful musical talents as a composer, singer, and instrumentalist with the Peach Pickers.
We also observed what a loving family man he was. It was so apparent that his family meant so much to him.
John was a wonderful example of setting a quiet, but steadfast example of living out his Christian faith.
He will be deeply missed.

Dear Harder family... when I heard of the passing of your husband/father, in one sense it saddened me, and in the other I knew he was safe with the Lord. I have known your family for many many years, and your dad/husband was a sweet loving man, never saw him without his famous smile. That was his trademark. He has left a lasting impression on me and always had something nice to say to me whenever he saw me. When I read his obituary, whatever was said about him was absolutely true, and it really touched me to see such a beautiful tribute to such a wonderful person......Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3
May God bless you in this time of sadness and rejoicing.
