I am sorry I did not see this in time to go to the funeral. My deepest condolences to her family. I remember pie baking for the New Hamburg sale with Liese at Cornerstone Community Church. She taught me how to crimp the pies. It is a beautiful technique and very professional looking. I remember her saying "this is the way my mother taught me when I was a little girl". I thought , here I am learning a technique that is at least 80 years old( when Liese learnt) it and probably much older that has been passed through many generations.
Every May, when the time comes to crimp the pies for the sale, I remember her, and when people compliment the finished look, I tell them the story of who it was that taught me the technique and I try to pass it on to a new generation.

There are many good memories of Liese over the years, as she was a close family friend to my Aunt's, Martha and Mary Bergmann. I especially enjoyed a few years of taking her and my Aunt Mary to Macdonald's for Saturday breakfast. I often heard interesting stories of her life as a younger woman. Every day was a gift to Liese, and I appreciated her positive outlook and practise of gratitude.
