I feel for your loss of Sydna. She was a lovely person. We didn't see each other all the time.....but, as she said, always felt a close connection when we did. I went to visit her quite awhile back and was surprized to find out about her cancer. We had a real nice visit. I made plans with her to go see her a while back. I called that morning to see if she was feeling up to it and she wasn't.....so I told her not to worry we would do it another time. Her passing makes me think of the beautiful art she did inside the elevator. I always kidded her back then that I was her biggest fan of that piece especially. I even borrowed her album on how she painted each part to show to people - I loved it so much. : - ) She was kind enough to let me borrow it and show it. The top part where it went up to the part where it felt like you were going through the universe. I'm sure she smiles on you her family lovingly as she travels there now. She is a beautiful soul. I met her when we all did classes at Barb Foran's. I will remember her fondly...........and the word artist will never come to mind that I won't think of her.

My husband, Don, and I met Sydna in 1988 at her exhibition "Men At Work" at the Planetree Gallery. She was very good at drawing & painting people but what really shone through for me was her sense of humour. We kept in touch over the years. She painted a fun mural in our laundry room, marblelized the columns in our living room/dining room, and built & painted a bookcase with angels on the doors, among other little things we commissioned her to do... all of which bring me great joy every time I look at them. I treasure them now more than ever and wish I had told her how much happiness she brought into my life. I hope to go to the Celebration of Life and will bring a few pictures to show you including one of her outer space exhibit at Bronte Harbour Fine Arts where one of her paintings was fastened to the ceiling; in the photo my husband is lying on a floor mat looking up at the painting. Such wonderful memories.

I was so saddened to hear of Sydna's passing. I wish I had known she was ill. I would of loved the opportunity to say thank you to her. Sydna brought the gift of art into my home and school. She painted a very special mural for my daughter's nursery. It was a picture from the children's book "Guess How Much I Love You". Sydna went on to paint a mural in the front foyer of Smith Public School. This mural will serve as a reminder of her talents for many years to come. I am thinking about Sydna's family at this time. I knew Jasmine and Deanna as students. I know how very special they were to their grandma. May Sydna rest in peace and may her creative spirit be with us always. Love Hilary Abbey

Dear Jill and Ginny, It was a long time since I saw your mom, but we used to be good friends, first at Grantham church, and then after she moved to Beamsville. I am sorry to say life got too busy, and I didn't make enough effort to stay in touch. It was a shock to read about her death. My heart goes out to you and the other members of your family. I know what a hole the loss of ones mother makes in ones life. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. You are in my prayers. Sincerely, Anne Finley

My Life with Syd Syd and I met at Haliburton School of Fine Arts several years before we were married - Feb 2, 1985 until early 1995. We had about 12 years together, 10 of those in Burlington, and we enjoyed the garden, travelling and especially her art. I well remember building her a huge easel from 2 sheets of 4 by 8 plywood sheets so she could do her famous elevator shaft wall paintings and cloud ceilings. The whole front of our house was her studio and she loved it there. We parted well enough, we visited occasionally to catch up on the families and understood each other as best two people can who have gone through what we had. I will miss her and I loved her. I too grieve as all her friends do. I always felt part of the family-they always very open to me. With all my love and Blessings. David
