Obituary of Heide Dr. Archie
HEIDE, Dr. Archie - Of St. Catharines, ON died Friday, November 29, 2013 at the age of 81. A general and vascular surgeon, he practised in St. Catharines throughout his career, from 1964 until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church and the Rotary Club of St. Catharines, which named him a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served on the Ontario advisory committee to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and later on the College's national Council.
Dr. Heide was born in Hepburn, Saskatchewan in 1932 and moved to the Niagara area with his family at age six. After graduating from Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas, he married Loretta Thomas in 1955. He completed his medical studies at the University of Toronto and spent several years training in California before moving back to St. Catharines to establish his practice.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta; his children, Randal (Jacquelin) Heide of Mississauga, ON, Janette (Bruce) Schroeder of Hillsboro, KS, Lisa (Steve) Kennedy of Hamilton, ON and Brad (Matt) Heide of Belfountain, ON; and seven grandchildren, Cassandra Heide, Ross Schroeder, Karl Heide, Tanner Kennedy, Madeleine Kennedy, Emma Heide-Galbraith and Kaitlyn Heide-Gailbraith.
The family will receive friends at Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church, 455 Geneva St, St. Catharines on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Family interment will take place at Niagara Lake Shore Cemetery prior to the Memorial Service to be held at the Church on Wednesday, December 4th at 11 am. Memorial donations to St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation or Mennonite Central Committee would be appreciated by the family.
