Obituary of Nina Bakowski

BAKOWSKI, Nina - At the age of 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the NHS (St.Catharines General Hospital) on Monday, July 07, 2014. Predeceased by her husband Joseph (2008). Nina leaves behind her devoted family, John (Bonnie) St.Catharines, Stanley (Maureen) Victoria, BC and Richard. Her life was blessed with 4 grandchildren - Steven Bakowski (predeceased Dec 2004), Cameron Bakowski, Kaitlin Wharton and Chantal Durrette. Janina immigrated to Canada via Pier 21 with her eldest John from Germany in 1951. Born in Russia, she lived and saw many elements of the war in Germany, but never lost sight of the personal side of the people who hosted her & Dad in the post war times. She adopted Canada as her country and lived a simple but gifted life working at what she knew best - cooking, tending to the farm & raising three sons and her grandkids. She did all very well and she will always be remembered for her exceptional cabbage rolls and meat sticks. She is a tough act to follow. Although not a religious person, she lived with a deep faith and great personal integrity. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of the NHS for the professional care and compassion provided during her stay. The staff is truly a team of angels of mercy. Nina is resting at the VINELAND CHAPEL of the TALLMAN FUNERAL HOMES, 3277 King St. Vineland, with visitation on Sunday, July 13, 2-4 & 7-8:30PM. Funeral Service will take place in the Chapel on Monday July 14th at 1:30 PM.
