Obituary of Edmond Wrycza
WRYCZA – Edmond died on July 12, 2015 at Maple Park Lodge Long-term care facility in Fort Erie, Ontario. Beloved husband of the late Edith (nee Phillips) Wrycza, dear father of Julianna (“Julie”) Sabol and father-in-law of John (Mac) Sabol of Buffalo, NY. Edmond became a resident of St. Catharines in 1958 and worked as a registered radiological (x-ray) technician at the St. Catharines General Hospital until his retirement in 1984. He then moved to Jordan, Ontario where he built a new home on his three and a half acres of land (which further supported his x-ray colleagues using the fun-loving title of “Count”). Born on October 18, 1917 in Kościerżyna, Poland, Edmond immigrated to Ottawa Canada via Italy as a veteran of the Second World War. He did farm labor for 2 years to become a citizen of Canada, and shortly afterward suffered a serious back injury from a few short weeks as a lumber jack where a tree fell on him. He was transported to Royal Victoria hospital in Montreal, Quebec where he received major back surgery and spent many weeks recovering. From this experience, he gained a strong appreciation for doctors and nurses and the work they do; so much so that he decided he wanted to become a nurse. After finding out that male nurses were non-existent in Quebec at the time, he was offered the opportunity to intern as an x-ray technician at the Royal Victoria hospital and eventually moved to St. Catharines where he became a registered technician. Edmond always had a smile for everyone and this welcoming spirit reflected his heartfelt desire to connect. This natural instinct made him an excellent mentor to students, a friend to his fellow health-care colleagues, and a comfort to the patients he helped. All are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 11AM on July 25th in the Chapel at Tallman’s Funeral Home, 3277 King St., Vineland, Ontario. A “ Celebration “ of Edmond’s life will follow at the home of his dear friends Ed and Karen Chudzik, 2956 Seventh Ave. Jordan, Ontario (a short distance from the funeral home). In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Maple Park Lodge (ATTN: Palliative Care Team), 6 Hagey Ave., Fort Erie, Ontario L2A 5M5.
