Dear Helgi and family:. I met with John Kernaghan this morning and heard of Ken's passing. Please accept my sincere condolences. Not sure if you will get this so late. I only came to learn of Ken's passing recently. Ken was a key mentor to me very early in my career in the Government of Canada. He was such a kind and considerate person, and a pleasure to work with. A brilliant mind, and a key figure in the study of Canadian public administration. My condolences to the entire Kernaghan family.

My sincere condolences in your time of loss. Prof Kernaghan was a extremely knowledgeable and fair professor but more he had a great sense of humour and was a kind and helpful man who was genuinely interested in your success.

The Editor-in-chief, Professor Andrew Massey and the Editorial Committee members of the International Review of Administrative Sciences are deeply saddened by Ken’s death. Ken was Editor-in-chief of IRAS from 1989 to 2005 and from 2005, a member of the IRAS Editorial Committee. We lost an excellent scholar with huge integrity and a dear friend.

Dear Helgi:
I have finally mastered this new technology and regret that the first time I use it is for the regretful circumstance.
MA and I send our deepest sympathies (MA has written a note!) to you, Kevin, Scott and Kris. We shall never forget those early days in Durham when a thesis was being written and defended and the many happy times since. Since my own retirement, we have travelled as much as we possibly can (in part following our Chris around the world) and contacts at home have as a result diminished. Regardless, memories linger on - sitting on your living floor with Jack Kershall trying to work out a book which never did come into being, but which in the long run led to a number of journal articles.
I shall say no more at the moment, but in quieter times drop in to say "hello".
In the meantime, you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Bill

Please accept our sincerest sympathy in the passing of Ken. He was a wonder man, but then I don't need to tell you that. We have enjoyed Ken's company while visiting with Aunt Georgina. We enjoyed following his career and when we were in Ottawa on a tour of the Governors house we saw where Ken was presented with his medal and saw his name in the library. He was a wonderful support and mentor to Sherri-Leigh during her days at Brock. He will be missed by many.

I'll always remember him especially for our time at Brock U and his help in getting me enrolled in 1st year. We hope you find some comfort in the memory of his accomplishments and hope his sons strive to emulate his finest qualities.

Dear Helgi and Family,
I was shocked and saddened this morning to read this obituary for Ken. I came to the Political Science Department at Brock University twenty nine years ago as a young professor, and the first woman professor. Ken was very kind and supportive. Ken was an academic star at the University, but what I remember most about our interactions was his interest in my children. I thought about this when I read Ken's remarks about the way he would like to be remembered. Every speech that Ken gave upon receipt of his many awards and accolades closed with an emotional tribute to his family.
My sincere condolences,
Leah Bradshaw

Sincere sympathy to Helgi and Family. Was very shocked to hear of Ken's fairly sudden passing. Ken, Helgi and their good friends were such fun to plan a cruise with. So glad I had the opportunity to meet him and used to be sure my candy dish was full when they came in as they all seemed to love their treats. Will surely miss Ken but am glad I was able to provide him with such great memories. Such a great man who really left his mark on this world but gone too soon.

I was shocked to learn of Ken's passing when I read the notice in today's Hamilton Spectator. Ken was a great friend and colleague, one of the best people that I have met in life. It is ironic that just last night I asked a friend whether Ken and Dave Siegel had continued with their landmark text in public administration, the academic field that Ken took to new heights during his career. The other irony is that just last Friday my band played in St. Catharines to raise funds for the Walker Cancer Centre. If Ken had cancer, I am certain that he put up the good fight. It's a battle that I too continue to wage.
Rick
Our profound sympathy to Helgi and family. We cannot imagine how much Ken will be missed. He has left us much too soon.
