Dear Fleming Family,
I worked with Tom for approx. 6 months in London a coupe of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed his company, positive attitude and grace.
I left the company, and as a result lost track of Tom, so I was so shocked to see the following obituary.
I am so sorry for your lost, however, he was an amazing person and I am honoured to have been able to work with him for a short time. Thus, I am sure that he must have been an amazing presence in your life -- it is not the time that we spend with another soul but the blessing that they bestow on us.
If you would like to talk please email me at tim.koivu@gmail.com

Dear Joann and family members,
We just received the CHEP newsletter and were shocked to read of Tom's passing. We want to extend our heartfelt condolences to all of you in your loss. We have many memories of Tom from the years that Chris was involved on the BCHEC and other poultry related business trips. Tom died one week before Chris's brother Bert, who passed away at age 52 from lymphoma.
Our deepest sympathy, may God be with you,
Chris and Judy Den Hertog

Jo-Anne and family,
Sincere sympathy on the recent passing of Tom. Although we didn't know Tom, we certainly know your parents Jo-Anne as Glenn is a first cousin of Dorothy's. Your sister, Kathy, was a flower girl at our wedding.
The days ahead will be difficult but with God's help and your strong support system, you will be given strength to carry on. From your Meaford Cousins

We are saddened to hear about Tom's passing. He fought the good fight and finished the race with courage and dignity. He is a good example to all of us of a man that was well respected in all the parts of his life; his family, his church, his work place and his community. Tom had a great example in the lives of his parents and he leaves a great example for his children and grand children. A true light that shines.
Blessings.

Jo-Anne and family- It is said that old friends are the best friends. As I reflect on Tom’s life I am reminded how true this simple thought now resonates with me. Our friendship began in the late 60’s when our family, upon moving to Beamsville, were embraced so warmly by the entire Fleming family. During public school we were inseparable. We played on a number of hockey teams together in those years, attended high school together for 4 years. During that time, Tom was, as any good friend is, a support, and I would like to think we were a support for each other during those fun and difficult years of growing up. He became and was family but made it official by marrying my cousin Jo-Anne (Graham). In a testament to his relationship to our family, my father in his last wishes, made it clear to all of us that he wanted Tom to lead the singing at his service. Our family was so pleased that he was able to honour Dad in that regard. While I will always remember Tom for his warm friendship, perhaps it will be our last conversation less than a month ago at our 40th high school reunion that I will treasure the most. Continued warm thoughts and blessings.

It was deeply touching to experience Tom again during our 40th class reunion, decades after our last previous visit in Abilene and just a few weeks before his passing. His calmness, composure and courage instantly impressed me, revealing the wisdom and human feeling that he had come to possess. These qualities, while perhaps to some extent the bitter gift rising out of his struggle with cancer, were obviously his personal prize achieved through a life well spent in serving his family, friends and probably even a number of strangers. In our too brief exchange I had the impression of sitting opposite a larger-than-life soul.
On behalf of my own family here in Austria, who also now know of Tom Fleming, I wish to convey our deepest sympathies to you. As one who has lost more than one very close loved one, I know there will be no one to fill the void Tom has left, but I am confident that his presence and spirit will continue to kindle within you and provide lasting warmth.

To the family of Tom Fleming:
We would like to offer our sincere condolences on the passing away of Tom; a beloved family member and friend. Tom touched many hearts and lives and he will not soon be forgotten; also not by those of us in the poultry industry, who were privileged to get to know him . We pray that the Lord may grant each of you His comfort during the difficult days, weeks and months ahead. May He grant you all you need when life will take up a new, but often painful, 'normal.' You are in our prayers.
Tim and Elly Hutten
O Lord, my God, I call for help by day; I cry out in the night before Thee. Let my prayer come before Thee, incline Thy ear to my cry! For my soul is full of troubles....

It seems like only yesterday that i was babysitting "the Fleming" children. I remember Tom climbing up the walls with his siblings. Simpler, happier times.
Tom was much too young to pass on. My heart aches for his family, especially, Joanne and children. A mum doesn't expect her children to go before her. I'm thinking of Val and the loss you are feeling. For the rest of you, it is painful to lose a sibling particulary before time. All these goodbyes are gut wrenching despite the celebration of lfe. May your memories be comforting, sweet, and funny.
Our heartfelt condolences. God be with you all.

When we lose someone we love, it seems that time stands still. What moves through us is silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why they left this earth so soon or why they left before we were ready to say good bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that they died, but that they lived, and gave us memories too beautiful to forget.
Heartfelt sympathy to you, Jo-Anne, Andrew, Rachel and Chris and extended family, and all of those who knew and loved Tom. May his memory live on as a legacy, through your memories and extended family. Thinking of you all during this time.
