Bob's erudition, wit and and gift for narrative made him, without a doubt, the best teacher I ever had. His lectures were inspiring, so much so that my first trip after college was to Russia so I could experience it first hand. That was 1974, still 100% soviet. I deeply valued his friendship and regret we lost touch. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

So very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a lot of fun and a great sub on our pub trivia team. He will be missed.

I actually met Bob a year before I came to Glendon, so one might say that he was one of the "lures" that drew me there. Once I arrived at Glendon he became one of my favourite teachers and this evolved into a friendship not just during my Glendon years but in the decades since.
Bob was such a caring person and he meant so much to me; through lunches in the SCR; dinners and drinks at my apartment; and dancing at Lorraine and my wedding.
Goodbye Bob, We'll meet again.
Lorne

He was one of my most memorable and effective teachers at Glendon, oh so many years ago. I still have all my notes from his fascinating and informative lectures on Russian history and society. I wish I had known he was living so near to me now. Sadly mossed, but long remembered.

It was only a few months ago that I met Bob Augustine at a small gathering. His wit and conversation and his excellent cheese souffle made a memorable evening. I regret that our paths will not cross again. I offer my deepest sympathy to his daughter, my dear friend Liz.

For twenty some years we had the privilege of being his friends. Our past together was filled with good wine, fine food, baseball, bridge till the wee hours and travel together (a real treat where he did the research and laid out the itinerary). Truly he is gone too soon. We will cherish his memory and miss him forever.

My sincere condolences to all of Bob's family and friends. I always enjoyed talking with and working with Bob at the Niagara Historical Society. I will always remember his down to earth nature, his commitment to NOTL and his sharp wit.
Rest peacefully Bob,
Nick

I will never forget this incredible and unique professor at Glendon. He brought Russian history alive in so many ways and inspired many of us to do our best work for him. So long!

I haven't seen Bob (never allowed us to call him Professor Augustine!) in decades, but I think of him often. His lectures were dazzling. He was supportive, kind, and his wizardry made the Russian Revolution come alive !
I was 23 then, 63 now. I guess its true that a really good teacher stays with you forever. My condolences to all who loved him. He was really one of the greats !

We are so sorry to have lost Bob. We learned so much about Russian history from him prior to(and after) going there as well as the Mennonite Community and their history here in NOTL. I wish I had been one of his students! He was an asset to his community and to his many friends!
Rest in peace!

We first met Bob some time ago when we were fellow re-enactors in the NOTL Historical Society's Cemetery Tour at the St. Marks cemetery. Over the years the "Graveyard Shift" as we became known, developed a wonderful esprit and as befitted our dear Bob, he was generally type cast as a respected, gracious senior citizen. His portrayal of the Reverend Addison was worthy of Broadway. Always a complete gentleman, he was loved by all of us who so enjoyed his company, willingness and wry sense of humour. On a personal level, whenever there was a quiet moment, I was fascinated with his stories of the history of Russia and we both promised to spend more time together to further my education. Alas, we never made it. Sheila took it upon herself to look out for Bob during the performances and was never very far away.
The world has lost a fine man and we will all miss him immensely. God speed, Bob.
