Obituary of Susan Elizabeth Grohmann

Grohmann, Susan Elizabeth (Cummer) - Peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2018.  Beloved wife of Winfried for 51 years.  Dear sister of Janet in London, Martha and Daniel and wife Marilynne in Toronto, and aunt of Leslie and John Kahyayan in Toronto.  Born in 1940 and raised in Strathroy, Ontario where her parents, Ralph and Marion Cummer, were both high school teachers, she attended SDCI and graduated from U of T in English and History.  For five years, Susan taught English in Wallaceburg and London.  In the meantime, Winfried came out from Germany in 1965 to work in a 2-year contract as an engineer for the Clairtone Company that had production facilities in Strathroy.  He arrived at Marion Cummer’s home to improve his English and there he met Susan.  They married in 1967 and eventually settled in St. Catharines.

Special thanks to Dr. Sedra and Dr. Sheikh, the home nursing team, Alex and Marek, and the staff of St. Catharines Hospital for their compassionate care.  Thanks to those who provided food, flowers and spiritual support during this difficult time.  Your kindness will always be remembered.

There will be no funeral.  A reception will be held at the Tallman Fireside Room, 3277 King Street, Vineland on Thursday, August 9 from 2-4 p.m.  Interment at a later date.
