Obituary of Arend Vandersteen

Vandersteen, Arend - Went to be with his Lord on the evening of January 20, 2019 at his home at Shalom Manor in Grimsby, Ontario.  Arend is survived by his wife and partner of 62 years, Jacoba, along with a brother in England and two sisters in the Netherlands.  He was the beloved father of Margaret and John, Paul and Dorothy, Joanne and Lon, Lorraine, and Rob and B.J.  He was a treasured Opa to eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  Arend was born in Maasland, Netherlands on October 27, 1932.  He married his childhood sweetheart, Jacoba, in 1956 and they emigrated to Canada on their honeymoon. A lifetime of hard work and true blessings followed as they raised a family in their new homeland, first in Halton and then for many years in the Beamsville area.

A celebration of Arend’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25 at Providence Christian Reformed Church in Beamsville, Ontario.  A family interment will precede the service.  A time of fellowship will follow the service at the church, where all are welcome.  The family respectfully declines flowers and donations; however, memories, prayers and condolences are gratefully accepted.
