I know this is late but I had to add my own two cents worth. I just found this notice and am saddened to learn of Iain's passing. I knew him as a fellow teacher and youth soccer coach in Beamsville. Iain had a wicked sense of humour. He had a million hilarious stories of his exploits as a teacher and coach. I looked upon him as a mentor and friend. He was also very caring and generous. Students loved his teaching style and dry wit but knew that this firm teacher also loved and cared for them. He made a difference for the better in the lives of those who knew him.

Mr. Hay was my geography teacher from the old Saltfleet in 1993 to the new in 1999. He was an incredible man who inspired me to pursue the field of geography and environmental sciences in my my undergrad. I will always Remember him for his kind soul and of course the Algonquin field trip. A wonderful man who always made time for his students. He is one of the few highschool teachers I will remember for the rest of my life. Very saddened to hear of his passing. Rest on Peace.

Laura, I remember Ian especially for his devotion to you. His tireless support at all Chapel music endeavours was endearing, his gentlemanly manner when with you and others was noted, and his quiet yet interested demeanor was appreciated by all. I will miss his thoughtful “hello” at the gym and our time for a wee chat now and then. Appreciate and remember with love all the moments you shared with this special man.

My deepest condolences to Mr. Hay’s family. Mr. Hay was my geography teacher in the late 80’s at Saltfleet. I started grade 9 with a serious illness and I will never forget his compassion and support. Geography was one of my favourite subjects because of him! He was knowledgeable AND fun. Hold tight to the memories you treasure, for they will last forever.

Iain was a great man. When I first started teaching, he gave me great advice. He told me to try to love them (students) all, and the ones I didn't love would become lovelier after a drink. Here's to you, Iain! Your humour will be missed.

Iain, I wish to thank you for your words of wisdom and enthusiasm as the famed leader of the Geography Club at SHS. We traveled to Rio, Greece and Spain together in the mid 80’s and I will always cherish those memories with you and my fellow students. Thank you for opening my eyes to the bigger world that was out there. My most sincere condolences go out to Laura and the family.
