Obituary of Margaretha Brouwer
Brouwer, Margaretha [Grace] -
Margaretha Geertruida Sophia Sluijter was born in Amsterdam on August 11, 1928, the eldest daughter of Johannas and Johanna Sluijter. She married Marinus Brouwer on June 30, 1951. After moving to Canada in July, 1957 with two young boys, Ed and Rob, Grace and Marinus eventually settled in Grimsby. They were later blessed with two daughters, Rose and Theresa [Terie]. Grace’s life was transformed in 1972 when she accepted Christ as her Lord and Saviour at Central Gospel Temple. She soon became a faithful member of the Central Choir and volunteered in Central’s Jail Ministry. For many years she and her husband traveled in their RV, volunteering their time and talents in various locations with the Sowers Ministry. She was known for her wonderful sense of humour and her infectious laugh.
As her health began to fail, her husband faithfully cared for her, demonstrating in a most profound way, the meaning of true love. When living at home was no longer a practical option, Grace eventually moved to the Vineland Mennonite Home. She celebrated her 90th birthday last August. In the early hours of Wednesday, July 31, Dad’s beloved wife, our dear Mother and Oma was ushered into the Lord’s presence just 11 days before her 91st birthday. Our loss is Heaven’s gain.
Grace is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Marinus, her children Ed [Judi], Rob [Esther], Rose [Floyd] and Theresa [Lynn]. She was blessed with 13 Grandchildren: Aaron, Rebecca, Casey, Nathanael [Nate], Christian, Jennifer, Kathleen, Caleb, Hannah, Emily, Tricia [t], Tabitha and Talicia and 29 Great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at the Vineland United Mennonite Home for the compassionate care extended during Mom’s residency.
