Obituary of Agnes Bruce Cook
Cook, Agnes Bruce
February 22,1920 - August 29, 2019
Agnes Cook, formerly of Toronto, left us peacefully at Albright Manor in Beamsville on August 29th at the grand age of 99. She was predeceased by her infant son Robert in 1950, her loving husband Alexander in 1996, and grandson James in 2010. Mother to Peter Cook, Sheila (Bill Robinson), and Sylvia (Mario Deviato); much loved Nonna to Christopher and James Robinson, Marco, Laura and Sandro Deviato, and Brian Cook; treasured Great-Grandma to Ozzy, Olaia, Ava, Johanna, and Aida.
In World War Two, Agnes joined the ATS division of the British Army, where she was one of 500 women trained to use a gunnery testing machine called a Cinetheodolite. She married Alex during the war, and in 1957, followed him to “the wilds” of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, with their three children. Work-related moves brought the family to southern Ontario, and in later years she and Alex ventured to Nova Scotia and South America.
Agnes was a voracious reader, world traveller, and animal lover. As family Matriarch, she cheerfully hosted family and friends both in Florida and at her beloved cottage in Buckhorn. She will be missed.
