Ruben flew his plane to Alberta to donate to the Prairie Mission Aviation initiative.
That evening two of our pilots would ferry Rube and his young co-pilot to Winnipeg in a little four-seater. From there your dad would fly commercially to be home, in Ontario, for Christmas.
Just as were were saying goodbye in our little Three Hills kitchen, a crisis call came.
Might we have a Winnipeg bound flight to transport one of our staff members facing a family emergency?
Both Rube and his co-pilot were willing to give up their seat. But Rube insisted.
Connie made it to Winnipeg in time. Rube spent the night with us. An emergency was averted.
In spite of horrible weather we did get your dad home, barely in time for Christmas. But he was willing to be stranded in Alberta just to help a desperate young woman.
We were left in awe at this humble, generous heart. Great IS his reward in heaven.

I very much value the time I was able to spend with Ruben the last 2 weeks.
His amazing recall generated wonderful memories of past family and church relationships. Even his many ventures by plane were so interesting to hear about..
My sympathies to Velma and the special family who did so much for him.
He will be sadly missed by so many
