Obituary of Aafke Schat

ALICE BEIMERS SCHAT
March 14th, 1923 - January 4th, 2020.
It is with profound sadness, but with gratitude for her long and rich life that we announce the passing on of our beloved matriarch, Alice (Aafke) Schat, nee Beimers, peacefully at Shalom Manor Long Term Care in Grimsby, ON. Mom is now home and safe in the arms of her beloved Saviour.

She lived her long life with determination, kindness and love of family. Her strong faith in God helped her survive the deprivation caused by the Great Depression, the horrors of WWII and the challenges of immigrating to a new country. She worked hard all of her long life with her loving husband Donald (Douwe) Schat (1920-1990) by her side. She will be forever missed by her children, Fred Schat (Barb) (Hennie, Deceased , 2014), Richard Schat (Beth), Helen Van Dyk (Bill), Karin Terado (Jun) and Ann Guillen (Al). She was a wise and cherished grandmother and engaging storyteller to Sean, Lara, Aaron, Jonathan, Adam, Stacey, Paul, Danielle, Christopher, Alexander, Beth and Steph and a loving great-grandmother to 21 great-grand children.

Mom’s greatest gift to her family, her friends and all those who loved her was sharing her deep and abiding faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. Isaiah 40:31

It was mom’s wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Hope and Healing International Organization or the charity of your choice.

A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, January 9th, 2020 at 1:30pm at Mountainview Church, 290 Main St East, Grimsby, ON
