To the family of Ernie Wiens, my most sincere condolences on his passing. Initially we were passing acquaintances at various wineries throughout the area, as we trucked grapes during harvest, we became good friends after I got more further involved in the trucking industry, and would keep 'Ernesto' apprised of any units I knew of for sale, and, of any potential buyers looking for equipment. Via his vast network of contacts, he inevitably would come up with what they were looking for, at a reasonable price... and if he was buying something you had for sale, you could count on a fair price offered at the outset, and, a good resolution from Ernie...always a straight shooter. During my occasional visits at the farm of which he was so proud, I was always amazed at improvements and changes made.. it seemed to be in a constant state of evolution.
I found out of his passing too late to visit in person, but, rest assured, while I am sad of his departure from our lives, I rejoice in the fact that I met this honorable, gentle man, and had the opportunity to spend time with him, listen to him, and learn from him.
My condolences to All of you.

I got to know Ernie during our attendance at Winkler Bible School in 1965-1967. Ernie became a very close and genuine friend from the start. We enjoyed many long in-depth discussions, sharing life and family history stories, and providing mutual encouragement to each other, Ernie from Virgil, Ontario and I from Niverville, Mb. In September of 1967 I flew to Ontario and spent three whole weeks on the Wiens farm, worked with Ernie and family in the grape harvest. I learned to water ski on Lake Ontario with the Wiens' power boat. The Wiens family was a delight to get to know and work together with. The experience was a psychological refreshging time for me. After we both got married we had several occasions to get together Lois and I with Ernie and Susan. We also got to know Audrey and Denise through several visits. In September 2019 Lois and I visited Susan and Ernie while Ernie was in hospital, though Ernie was awaiting further diagnosis, he was in good spirits and that was our last visit. Ernie called me just before Christmas, little did each of us know it would be our last conversation.. Our love, prayers and thoughts go with each of you: Susan, Audrey, Denise and your families. And, blessing to Samuel on your engagement - John & Lois Penner

Our family has lived across the road from Ernie and his wife for the past 28 years. Every summer, while working our family fruit stand, we could always count on a friendly wave at the end of the day from Mr. & Mrs. Wiens while they relaxed sitting on their front porch. He was always a friendly face and helping hand when needed. He will be greatly missed.
A donation has been made to Camp Crossroads in his memory.

Dear Susan and family,
As you know, Ernie was one of my best friends growing up. He was just 12 days younger than me and we shared the "Wiens" surname as well as a lot of great memories, including our baptism in lake Ontario on the same day. I also recall fondly my participation as a groomsman at your wedding. Our paths diverged due to the differences in our careers and where we chose to live, but I always cherished with fondness the memories of our years together and the friendship Ernie extended to me as a new arrival in the Niagara region as a teenager. May God grant you comfort and courage as you face life without him. Ginny and I send our sincere condolences.

As his accountant we would obviously deal with his financial matters first, but those always evolved into other discussions about Ernie's ventures, experiences and memories. He always had things on the go, and stories to tell; and if you wanted to hear it (or not) he had words of wisdom he had accumulated in phrases or short stories. And meetings would evolve into personal discussions with stories and pictures from the past. One of my last meetings with Ernie he produced very old pictures of my Opa in the old country and of my great aunts sitting in their one room school here in Canada. That's Ernie. He trust cared for the people he associated with, and I am sure many people will attest to his personal touch in their lives. A soft caring attitude we would all do well to emulate.
