My thought and prayers are with the family. I have known Mr. John only for a brief period of time but knew from day one that, he was a man of wisdom. Whenever I have met him, I felt a genuine and compassionate person, who spreads his love like aroma. May God bless his soul and peace be upon him. We will miss him a lot.

Big Tree lost a fine man when John left this world. He was such a compassionate person, always asking about others even when you knew he did not feel well. And what a card player he was! He made me love Bid Euchre. I will miss his smile and his hug the first time he saw me after he and Thelma returned to Big Tree in the winter. When I told David of John's passing all he could say was "What a shame. He and I had many talks." He also admired John very much.
My empathy goes out to you and your family. It is difficult to lose one's spouse. May your faith in God support you during this heart-rending time.

John and Thelma are our very good friends and part of a large family called "The Big Tree Family". They took the time to teach many of us to play a new card game, Bid Euchre. They taught us so well that we can't wait for Saturday mornings to come around to play the game. When Mary wanted to learn carving, John took her under his wing and was a tremendous help getting her started. With his guidance, Mary entered a carving in a show and won first place in the novice group. Both she and John were bursting with pride over that. With the passing of John, Mary and I and the Big Tree Family have lost a very good friend. Our condolences to Thelma and her family.

Our sincere condolences to Thelma and family. John was a wonderful man, loved his family and was a friend to us. I think he may have been one of the finest "chip carvers" in the world, and produced some amazing pieces. I enjoyed chatting and playing bid euchre with him. Many in Big Tree will miss him, and we will be counted in that number. May God Bless and provide comfort to all who loved him. Rest in Peace my friend, until we meet again.

We are praying for your family. Losing your father and grandfather is so difficult. Uncle John to me, always had such a great sense of humour. I remember so well the times your family drove out to visit our family in BC. We always looked forward to those times! Uncle John could always get my mother(his serious sister) to laugh. I still have the collectible plate we got for a wedding gift, as well as a trivet he carved for us. He was such a talented, and kind person. He will always hold a special place in my heart.
Love and prayers from Jenny (Hooge) and Leon Stein
