To Marie's family
I have just finished your beautiful youtube tribute to Marie and it has evoked powerful emotions and memories. Before we moved to Ottawa in 1954 I was profoundly influenced by the Glintz family, especially Marie and her mother, my 'Gramma Glintz.'
Marie was our babysitter in the early years, mid-1940s-early 50s. She would take care of me, my younger sister Ruth and older brother Ralph whenever Mom and Dad were going out. A few years ago I had the chance to reconnect with Marie and she remembered those years clearly and with deep fondness. She was particularly close, and fond of, my mother, Jean Reid.
I have fond memories of my regular (daily) visits to the Glintz household to get my ration of cookies from 'Gramma Glintz.' I lived around the corner on Hixon Street at the corner of Beam Street. I remember a night when we thought it a good idea for me to sleep over at the Glintz house. It didn't last - Stanley had to carry me home sometime during the night. It wasn't unpleasant, I guess I was just not ready to travel away from home.
The memories of the Glintz family have stayed with me until this day and I realize the profound impact this family has had on me. Marie and her family are part of who I am, and will always be a part.
The attached photo is Marie with my sister Ruth and brother Ralph (aka Chief), circa 1949/50. I don't know where I was, although I was a sickly kid (Marie remembered me as having seizures and was thankful that it never happened while in her care) in my early years so maybe I laid up somewhere.
Those early, really, really good, childhood experiences have stayed with me. May Marie remain in our hears forever.
