To the family of Martin Dyck;
I am so sorry to read about one of the kindest people I have ever been acquainted with who has passed.
I met Martin 30+ years ago at Philips Electronics. He became a close friend and ally. He listened to me often complain about work and life many times.I helped him start his first business and played racquetball with him. I visited him when he had his tonsils out! I can’t find the words to express my deepest sorrow at his passing. Breaks my heart. He was so amicable and kind.

I very much enjoyed getting to know Martin as a regular customer at his store. I used to love bringing coffee, timbits and my golden doodle Ricky to share with Martin. He very much enjoyed watching Ricky run around his store (in the off season). I only learned about Martin’s passing today (October 2) and I wish to pass along my condolences to his family. He was always a kind, caring and happy individual who was genuinely interested in my latest boating and work adventures (as a high school principal). I will miss him! Steve David

Sadly missed , one of the first people to make my job easier over 24 years ago, when he came to my booth at Toronto boat show, as a marina manager we became close , Martin always knew the answer to any problem, All of my customers I sent straight to Martin, he would even deliver. Martin like myself worked all summer yet we would still bump into each other in Turks, one of martins favourite places. I will hold onto my memories of a great person Martin was, thankyou to his family for all the years you’ve shared him with all of us. God bless the family, Martin is sailing above at peace watching over the ones he loves and the beaches he walked

Joan and I want to extend our deepest condolences to the Dyck family for the loss of Martin. To Kim, his partner for so long, our thanks to you for all you have done over the past years to make it easier for him. Martin and I crossed paths in the late '80s when we went to college together. From there, it has been a roller coaster of memories that shaped our mutual friendship and deep bond of trust. As we remember Martin in our own way, we will have those "I remember when" moments that are special and unique to each of us. I was not from his boating fraternity, however, I did feel his passion for that world and his complete devotion to help those who asked for his guidance and support. His sense of pride in what he was doing with his life was evident in the smile and the energy he devoted to his chosen field.
Sleep, my friend....the race is over.

I always looked forward to visiting Uncle Martin at the Toronto Boat Show. He is the reason I have my boater's license today -- I still remember his optimism and confidence in me as a timid 20 year old. His advice: "You just need to know one phrase. Red on right returning"

Will miss you Martin. You have been a part of our lives for almost 30 years. We first met while working at Philips Electronics. Our paths diverged as our careers changed, then our common boating interests brought us once more together. ThaiLyn and I spent many happy hours in his store at Port Whitby, sometimes buying parts, sometimes seeking advice or simply sharing memories over coffee. As an employee with Port Whitby Marina I worked closely with Martin, both in and out of the water. More than once I had his boat on my back. We will miss your smile, your laughter and the stories shared. So rest quietly now. You have been a true and loyal friend, a knowledgable advisor on many a boating question, and your generous nature was such a huge part of the man we were blessed to know. We will miss you Martin. RIP.

Martins spirit will always shine a presence at the Port Whitby Marine Supplies shop, his quiet rational caring ways will always be there. Martin gave of himself along with generous donations to good causes. The boating community benefited from Martins genuine sound advice and his successful business. Martin has passed his business torch on to Glen Matthews. To go to the Port Whitby website and see the photograph of Martin and Glen together is a proud tribute to Martin. Thank you so very much Martin for being yourself. with the greatest of respect, I will miss but never forget, John Hamilton

After reading through the memories of Martin, I've learned a lot about the man that many of us consider the Master of Marine Parts. He had a whole, separate life from the Marine Industry that I was unaware of. He was a Master of Marine Parts, but also a Master at friendships, business acquaintances and customers alike.
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

I have known Martin for almost 30 years through his marine store in Whitby and we became good friends having a cold beer at the end of a long day in the store or going for beer and wings.As we became friends I noticed Martin always was willing to help and always asked how the kids and how business was and when you asked him how he was he always had a smile and replied he was good! Martin came to me last year about a house he was building and I could see the excitement in his smile and eyes about building it. It was an honor and a privileged to have him as a friend may he now rest in peace.

Forty four years ago Martin and I went thru college together, graduated as Electronics Technicians and then got our first jobs in Instrumentation (go figure) at Stelco where we ended up in the same shop for a time. In fact we car pooled for a half year or so with a couple of other guys from school. i lived part way there so I'd meet them in Vineland. This was back when the QEW was a 4 lane highway rather than the 6 it is now and Martin drove his prized and very well cared for Chevy Nova. Martin was a very meticulous craftsman and I recall he was always very careful and precise in everything he did. I think it dawned on him that his talents were somewhat wasted in steel so he chose a field where his contribution was more highly valued.
One of my memories of Martin at work was early on when we'd just received our new safety gear and not more than a few days later he caught his boot on something while walking from changehouse to shop and slit the side of one boot wideopen. We didn't even notice till we got to the shop. Thank God it was only the boot but i recall Martin was really chagrined that he'd now have to buy another pair of boots right away. It left a lasting impression on me because from that moment on i was always really wary around steel coils.
I have long wondered where Martin went after Stelco and was deeply saddened to find he'd recently passed away. I have no doubt that the picture of Martin painted by the other individuals here is accurate because it rings so true of the Martin i knew over 40 years ago. It says a lot about the man that his character was so authentic and deeply a part of him that it remained the same through out his life. He was missed then and yet again now,
My deepest condolences to his family, I know you miss him deeply, he as a good man and deserves all the praise i can give him.

I soon enrolled into the same studies that Martin had gone through himself and to this day I am still in that field and loving it. I have always appreciated the insight you provided me. RIP Martin

The first thing that impressed me when I met Martin was that he was a true gentleman. In the 15 years we were together he was thoughtful and generous and could always make me smile. Retirement did not go as planned, but though he is gone, he will never be forgotten. Life won’t be the same without him. May his family find comfort in knowing he was loved and cherished.

A wealth of knowledge, and always willing to lend a hand.
You’d have to twist his arm to try and give some back.
Always loved our visits on board on a sunny afternoon for a glass, maybe two, of wine or some sort of fluid.

This is about the saddest news that I could receive right now. I've been a friend and customer for about 25 years. For about 10 years I would place boater parts/accessory orders with Martin and pick them up every few days. I'd bring him a medium black coffee every time ... and most days we'd go for lunch while I was down from my boat. I joined him in his boat show booth several years. His Trojan is for sale on my website and I'll do my best to get the family the proceeds from a sale quickly. Hundreds of boaters will be saddened by his passing ... as am I.
