Dear Helen and family,
My heartfelt sympathies to you all in the passing of Don. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend his Celebration of Life and reconnect then. I am sure that I can speak for my mother Ina, as well as Jim Allcock and Murray Smith, in my recollection of such fun and inspirational times spent over the years with Don and family. We will miss him a great deal, but celebrate that the victory has been won!
God Bless You All,
Cyndy Allcock

When I was a teenager I went to visit my sister, Vilma & Don in Ottawa. We went on a picnic to Gatineau Mts. I made a Graham wafer our for Don. He was so excited about that pie. Walking to the site I carried the pie in one hand and held Julie's (2 yrs old) with the other. She bent down, I leaned over and dumped the our upside down in the grass. Don was so upset he couldn't enjoy his picnic, but by the time we left we laughed all the way home. He told the story many times, always with a laugh.

I attended Great Lakes Christian College with Don and ran into him many times over the years. Linda and I used to get together with Don and first his wife Vilma and later his second wife Helen at a regular New Year’s Eve party held at the home of Harold and Sharon Ellis in Oakville. Don was a very funny guy; he could see the humour in everything and had a great laugh - often at his own jokes. He was also a great story teller, of course with a humorous twist at the end, or his telling of the story would fool you into believing it and then at the end you realized Don just made it up. So he kept us in stitches at these NY Eve parties. As the obituary says he was a great people person. He was also a good Christian gentleman and made positive contributions to many people through his important careers. I know he was a faithful Christian and I am sure he is making the angels laugh. Our condolences to Don's family.

I will always remember Don as being a warm and kind man, always thoughtful of others and giving of his time. His zest for life and his positive attitude could always brighten up the darkest room. He spend a week at Camp Omagh one particular year with me. It was early in the morning and the kids were playing baseball. That was the year he encountered his knee injury. Even though it hurt a lot and needed immediate hospital attention, he never complained, even when two hospitals told him to go home.

I'm going to miss Swiss Chalet lunches after church with him and all the jokes he shared...and him blowing the paper of the straws at anyone who could be his intended victim ...lol... And the profound effect he had on my life growing up in the late 70's.

Jim and Julie, I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was such a warm and funny, caring and generous man, always joking and teasing. He and your mom were like second parents to me while I was at GLCC and their home in Toronto was always open and welcoming. I have many good memories of your dad, including when he was convinced that I really wanted a banana split. He has left us all a legacy of kindness and compassion, having spent his life serving others, and I will always remember him with fondness. Sending my condolences to you both and to your families.
