I am so sorry to hear of Sharlenes' death. I met her at her sister Gerrys house and we all "clicked" right away as gardeners, nurses and kindred spirits. I so enjoyed her FB messages and I know she had great tenacity to regain function after her other health issues. She will be missed. I enjoy her painted note cards and can imagine the paintings she has left behind to cherish. Love, Corky Olson in Wisconsin

Sharlene was my private watercolour teacher for 4 years in my adolescence. I was extremely saddened by the news and I wished I had visited her. Still to this day whenever I paint, her words ring clear in my mind. Sharlene is one of the reasons I am studying art at university and I always let my professors know that she is the reason why I am skilled at painting. Nothing but kindness came from Sharlene and her light will continue to shine through the people who had the privilege to meet her. I am sorry for this immense loss.

Our condolences to the Hendriks family. Sharlene will be greatly missed by so many people who were fortunate to have known her kindness, effects and inspiration she had on their lives. The obituary really captured her presence and essence. Her beautiful watercolour paintings of flowers will be loved keepsakes. When our granddaughter was 11, she painted her first painting with Sharlene's guidance, now painting is one of her interests in life. I remember attending Sharlene's art showing at Beamsville library many years ago, there were her beautiful paintings all over the walls, what a pretty ambiance. One summer her 'art in the garden', her garden, showing was an inspiring occasion, the gardens full of flowers blooming and flowers blooming on pictures. A lovely lady, a kind soul. Long-time farm neighbours Ron & Shirley.

Dear Dan, Missy, Eric, Cindy and families, I was truly sorry to learn of Sharlene’s passing. She was a wise, talented, no-nonsense lady. As matriarch of her large family, she wore many “hats”. She had her share of challenges and faced them with fortitude. The obituary was beautifully written and captured her essence. She will be missed and yet with you always. With sincere condolence, Judy

My sincerest condolences to your entire family on the loss of your mother and grandmother, Sharlene. I was given the blessing of working with and learning from Sharlene. Her gentle presence and support of vulnerable children and her kindness towards all staff and students inspired me in my own role and in my own life. What a wonderful gift we are given to walk with earth angels and to learn from them until we meet them again. Continue to celebrate Sharlene's "continuation day" because all that we loved about her continues to live on. Have faith that she continues to walk with us!

My sincere condolences to Sharlene’s family. I was honoured to get to know Sharlene as we worked together on the Health Services team at Bethesda. Sharlene was a dedicated nurse who showed love and compassion to everyone. I always thought how lucky she was to just cross the street to go to work. When I would visit Sharlene, she would show me the painting she was working on. She was very talented and her paintings were so beautiful. Her love for flowers was very evident. May your many happy memories comfort you at this time.

Our condolences...I remember fondly the days of riding my bike from our place on Victoria Avenue up to the farm, working there, being allowed to eat one of the tiny sweet pears that I have not since found anywhere, staying over (esp when a new baby was being born), watching Phil eat mounds of mashed potatoes, gathering for watching hockey games, skating on the pond. We have a few of Tante Sharlene's paintings and I remember going with Janine to her first "showing" in Beamsville (I think it was at the Library). More recently she also generously donated her Precious Moments collection to Branches Catholic Ministries...perhaps it will help us in a small way to spread the Catholic faith. We will keep her and the family in our prayers! Rob and Janine Hendriks

I met Nana almost three years ago but it feels like so much longer as a result of her beautiful ability to make everyone around her feel so welcomed and special. I know that if I walked into a room full of strangers and met Nana for the first time, I would feel at home right away. Anyone would. Her kindness and compassion were something rare that cannot be replicated but I know everyone who knew Nana will do their best to lead their own lives in the same way she did — with love. I will miss her monthly Facebook messages, having to return her Mitch Albom books that she would so kindly lend me, and her beautiful hand-painted cards. And so much more. She was truly a real-life angel who treated me like one of her own grandchildren from the moment I met her. I feel so blessed to have experienced loving her.
