Obituary of Merritt James MacGregor
“Bud” Merritt James MacGregor
May 1, 1933 – January 14, 2021
It is with broken hearts, we as a family announce that God has called “Bud,” Merritt James MacGregor home at the age of 87. Bud was predeceased by both his parents Donald & Ethel, his only sister Donaline Wright, his son Douglas (2015) and daughter-in-law Judy (2013). He is survived by his beloved wife Jackie (nee Dixon) and best friend in his life for over 67 years of marriage. He was the cherished father of his sons Douglas (Brenda), and William (Sharon), and loving daughter Patti-Lynn. He will be deeply missed by ALL of his 7 granddaughters Laura (Tyson), Melissa (Cain), Pamela (Justin), Shelley (Ryan), Jacqueline (Brad), Janell (James) and Jessica (Brandon) as well as his great-grandchildren Mae, Rosalie, Avery, Leah and his treasured dog “Sandy.”
Bud was employed by Canada Steamship Lines for over 12 years as a Marine Engineer. He also worked for Stelco for over 23 years as a Stationary Engineer and retired in 1994. He was a ‘Jack of all trades’ with many skills and there was nothing he could not fix. Bud and Jackie enjoyed a number of years together fleeing south to their Florida home escaping the cold winters. Both of them together equally enjoyed volunteering and serving the Lord through their life and retirement years. Bud will always be remembered for his quiet, gentle soul, generosity, quick wit and sense of humour, heart full of gold and unconditional love for his family and his faithfulness and trust in God. A special thank you goes out from the family to all the healthcare “heroes” at Radiant Care Tabor Manor who bravely cared for Bud in such difficult and trying times.
