Obituary of Daniel Wayne Hill

Daniel Wayne Hill (1949-2021) 

It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Wayne Hill announces his passing peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2021 at the age of 71. 

Cherished husband of 49 years to Janice Elizabeth Hill (Lusk). Jan and Dan would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 25, 2021.  Wonderful, loving father to Lorna (Chris Thomas) and Sarah (Scot Jarrett), and amazing grandfather, known affectionately as “Grumpy” to Ruby Jarrett, Zoe Thomas, and Paige Thomas. 

Dan was born in Oshawa, ON in 1949. Dan joins his predeceased parents, Lydia Hill (Johansen, 1919-1973) and Clarence Hill (1915-1964).  Dan is the beloved younger brother to Gary Hill (Bobbie), and Joan Sawyer (Jim), and older brother to Janice Joyce (Ross) and Linda Walsh (Brian, 1953-2016). He also leaves behind many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dan got his diploma in computer science from Seneca College.  He then spent his career working in technology, with a focus on hardware development.

Dan will be remembered as a kind, generous man who always put his family first. Dan also loved nature, being outdoors, and animals. For many years he was an active member of Ducks Unlimited. Dan cared for, and loved, many pets in his life: fish, rabbits, and his beloved dogs, Lissa, Maggie, Chelsea and Katie.  He passed on his love of animals to his daughters and granddaughters. 

Dan was an avid gardener, loved astronomy, and really enjoyed telling a good joke, especially his witty, off-the-cuff puns. Dan was also known to be very creative in the kitchen. In his later years, he enjoyed cooking and baking with his granddaughters. 

His kind heart, wonderful smile, and infectious laugh will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. His family feels so very fortunate to have had Dan in their lives. He will be deeply missed by family, friends and loved ones. 

His family would like to thank the wonderful team at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital who took such great care of him in his final weeks, especially the nursing team, who showed him, and his family, so much compassion. 

Donations can be made in Dan’s memory to either Ducks Unlimited, or the Canadian Cancer Society.

A celebration of life will occur at a later date when we can gather together again, to share fond memories of Dan.
