Obituary of Albert Teglasi

Albert Teglasi was born in Vamospecs, Hungary, December 5, 1930 to

Susan and Albert Teglasi.  At 17, he told his mother he would not be coming back home after spending time with his four friends, at a sporting event in Debrecen.  He left behind his 3 brothers, Istvan, Micklos, and Gabor. Escaping communist Hungary, they traveled by foot to the Austrian border, where they found farm work.  While applying for immigration papers to Canada, a chance came, when some friends of Alberts father from Canada accepted to sponsor him.   He arrived in Halifax via ship on March 13,1950.  During the summers he worked on the tobacco farms in Delhi, Ont. and in winter he worked in the bush forests in the north.  He and friends travelled to the Yukon for work in his new Studebaker, but came back when they were told there was no work in the cold winter. He married his love, Violet Hasznosy, on June 20, 1953 and worked at McKinnons in St. Catharines where they bought their first house.  Woodworking became his passion, besides tinkering on car engines. Albert Jr. was born in Kitamat, B.C. in 1957 followed by Wendy Violet (Schonewille) in St. Catharines, in 1958.  Moving to Toronto for work, and back to St. Catharines and settling on First St. Louth where they opened their business “West Side Kitchens”.  He met many who appreciated his fine workmanship of kitchens and specialty furniture.  He has passed this craft onto his son. He traveled with Violet to many places on this earth, seeing through his movie camera and revisiting them many times as his Alzheimers took hold of his life.

Albert enjoyed his 5 grandchildren, as they grew up around him, then along with their spouses, Scott (Karen), Michelle (Justin), Ashley (Khem), Reece (Becky), Samantha (Chris).  Albert and Violet took them on vacations to Europe, Florida and eastern Canada. Then his 9 great-grandchildren, Philip, who started calling him GaPapa and the rest Priya, Arie, Bence, Atley, Keanan, Violet, Autumn, Willow all followed suit.  His daughter-in-law Elaine and son-in-law Dave enjoyed experiencing the cooking on open fires in his backyard, which is how the family will celebrate his life this summer.  A life lived through a war, to young adventurer, a loving husband, family, business, friendships and even ending it with COVID. 

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
