I just received news from my cousin that Rick had passed, suddenly. I grew up with Rick, he in Jordan Station, I in Jordan. We went to high school together, BDSS(Beamsville) where we 'messed about' in the halls between classes, usually not getting into trouble... I saw Rick infrequently over the years; unlike Rick I ventured far from Jordan, he stuck close to his roots, and his roots were deep.
The last time I saw Rick he was helping My Mom auction off all her furniture from her house in St. Kitts as she prepared to move into assisted living. As can be imagined, it was a fairly emotional time, and Rick helped us all through it. He was calm and realistic, and my Mom was happy with his help getting it done.
To all of Rick's family, please accept my condolences. He was a good man and we will all miss him.

Darlene & Aaron, I deeply saddened by the news of Rick’s passing. The memories I have of the many good times Rick and I had together will stay with me forever. From pond hockey, fishing behind his house down on the twenty, times at the Beacon, trips “ across the River, and many many many card games just to mention a few.
He was a Great Friend. My most sincere condolences to you both and your extended families. He will be missed..

I knew Rick from poker room in NF....quite the raconteur....
I specifically remember 1 hand many years back when 2 young guys pushed all-in for $100s against Rick, who unbeknownst to them was holding what we call the 'nuts', i.e., the top hand....Rick paused and then announced 'I have 2 things to say....1, I call and 2, you're both drawing dead', whereupon he showed his straight flush and took down a massive pot....
1 of the good 1s....

Darlene and Aaron I am so sorry for your loss. With Rick’s passing, we have lost a true pillar of our community. He contributed so much time and energy to our community through charity work and his active involvement in community groups like the Chamber of Commerce. His legacy is lasting and will be remembered for many years to come. And I will miss his wonderful sense of humour which was on full display at charity auctions like the Jordan Lions Wild Game Dinner. Rick was a great individual and he will be truly missed. - Tom Gadsby

My sincere condolences to the entire Rittenhouse family! Like so many, my memories of Rick started as a child hearing his firm, loud voice as an Auctioneer at Etheringtons. Over the past decade it was always great to see Rick at Tim Hortons, his favourite spot to enjoy his morning coffee and socialize with good friends. May the memories you hold, give you strength during this difficult time.

There are many things I could say here... all the great auctions Rick had, how many fantastic things he sold, how many friendships he forged and how he somehow managed to find the good in all. But I promise to be short.
Rick always went fishing with his buddy up north every year and he used to tell me how humbled he was when he looked up into the vast starry sky and saw how insignificant we all were in the grand scheme of things.
Well Richard I hope you're up there in that big starry sky looking down on us now and realize how truly significant you were to all of us.
My deepest condolences to his beloved wife Darlene, son Aaron, family and friends.
Sincerely, Susan McShannon

Our condolences to the Rittenhouse family. We went to high school with Rick and have lived in Vineland for over 45 years. We would run into Rick in town for chats and catching up on life. Rick and I (Reggie) spent many spare classes talking in the BDSS cafeteria about life and solving the world's problems.
At Rick's auction at his parent's home, he laughed to me that he was selling the sofa he bought at the auction he did for us at Vic's parent's home. So many little connections.
Such a nice man. We hope the all memories shared with you will give you countless reasons to smile.

Dear Mrs. Rittenhouse and Aaron, I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that I will have you and your entire family in my thoughts.
I have the fondest memories of Mr. and Mrs. Rittenhouse coming over to visit my folks when I was a child, I will always remember the hours of card playing you would share and the laughs I would hear you all having. Mr. Rittenhouse was so kind and funny, I always looked forward to seeing him.
As an adult it was always fun to attend a Rittenhouse Auction, not just for the auction, but also because you knew Mr. Rittenhouse would have something funny to say or share. He was such a wonderful man, he will be missed and will live on through the so many people who knew and loved him.

When we moved back to the area after 30+ years in Vancouver, we were very pleased to find that Rick and Darlene would be our neighbours. We went to school with both, and Rick, as our neighbour was always available with any information we wanted about the neighbourhood, the town, Tim Hortons and card games! When we came back from a trip abroad last year and we were quarantined, Rick always asked whether we needed anything.
We will miss his knowledge, his friendship and just knowing that he is next door. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
