Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Wright
Wright, Mary - It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mary (Betty) Wright, peacefully at Albright Manor in her 99th year. Predeceased by her husband, Dentith Wright, her brother William Twidaleand sister Grace Edwards. Survived by daughter Brenda Lane (Ken) and son Brian Wright (Diane), grandchildren Daniel Lane (Tania), David Lane (Brandy) and Wendy Ware (Mike), and great grandchildren Mason, Clyde, Arthur, Owen, Madison, Brian, Paisley, Aurora, Ethan, Erich and Kimberlee.
Betty grew up in Brantford, Ontario. She became a school teacher and began her career in a one room country school house, teaching all eight grades at once. She met the love of her life, Dentith and they were married in 1951. They raised their family in Erindale (now Mississauga) and then moved to the Town of Lincoln in 1969.
In retired life, they enjoyed traveling in their RV and trips to the UK to visit family. Betty was a long-time member of the Anglican Church Women at St. John’s Church, Jordan, and volunteered in many of the church’s fund raising activities, even at age 85 you could find her out scrubbing potatoes for the Holy Grill French Fry truck. She also volunteered for Lincoln Literacy Council, the Jordan Historical Museum Heritage Gift Shop, and was a founding member of the Seniors Club of the Twenty in Jordan. She loved her sweets and was an avid baker; she had a pie for every occasion! After moving into Heritage Village her neighbours used to enjoy listening to her play the piano through the apartment walls.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff of Albright Manor, Beamsville for taking such good care of Betty in the three years she resided there.
If desired memorial donations to St. John’s Anglican Church, Jordan or The Albright Manor Foundation, Beamsville would be appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Tallman Funeral Homes.
Due to Covid a private family service will take place in St. John’s Public Cemetery.
