John was born in Haarlem, the Netherlands, to Hendrika Alida and Hendrik Marinus Hoed, October 6, 1926. He graduated from technical school in 1942 with an electrician’s qualifications. During WWII he was conscripted to a German labour camp where God woke him in the night by calling his name, and gave him the promise, “John, I will bring you home.” He and his brother were miraculously released and home within weeks. God’s promise of protection proved true all his days: from adventures in the Dutch Airforce in Indonesia, marriage to Maria Cornelia Dekker in 1954, emigration to Canada in 1960, starting Technical Services (electrical contractor to Niagara area greenhouses) in 1968, to retirement, ordination as a minister in 1990, to numerous subsequent mission ventures. This promise is especially true today. He is finally “thuis” in his heavenly home.
John is survived by his daughters Hennie Lloyd of Cambridge (Ian, late of Cambridge), Johanna Rensen (Neil) of Beamsville, Connie Hoed and Jane Hoed of Vineland, 7 grandchildren; John Lloyd (Kate) of Kingston, Krysta Lajoie (Kevin) of Brantford, Julie-Anne Lloyd of Cambridge, Rachel Samuels of Beamsville (Steve, late of Beamsville), Esther van Geest (Colin) of Vineland, Bobbie-Jo Moellgaard (Peter) of Wileville NS, Destiny Rensen of Beamsville and 8 great grandchildren; Curtis Lloyd, Eloise Lajoie, Abigail and Ellen Samuels, Gwen and Cory van Geest, Josiah and Zahra Moellgaard. He is predeceased by his wife Rie (1997), his parents and 3 brothers, Henk, Cor and Roel, of the Netherlands.
