Obituary of Charles Shields

SHIELDS, Charles Thomas Raymond – Passed away suddenly Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. Charlie was in his 84th year and had been enjoying a beautiful Ontario summer in Niagara where he was born and lived his entire life. He began life as a fruit farmer on Durham Road in Beamsville, but being a man of many talents he also shared his skills and steady nature with local area companys - Cole Construction, Lincoln Motors and National Socket Manufacturing where he enjoyed long careers. His hobby was his family and everything he did was to compliment that. Through his hard work and devotion we enjoyed backyard pools, ice rinks, camping, cruising and many other family centered activities. He was our family’s Google before there was Google, always the one to ask about how something worked or should work. A life well lived, enjoyed and shared. Gone too soon and missed the most by loving and devoted wife of nearly 59 years, Hazel; son Tom and Monica Shields and grandchildren, Jessica and Briea Shields; daughter Sharon and Travis Sawchuk and grandchildren Maribeth and Austin Sawchuk. The family will receive friends at the VINELAND CHAPEL of the TALLMAN FUNERAL HOMES, 3277 King St. on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-8:30 pm. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, September 7th at 11 am. Interment at Mount Osborne Cemetery, Beamsville. Charlie was a dedicated volunteer at the Niagara Warehouse of Hope for 15 years, and the maker of over one thousand knitted caps that went to newborn babes around the world. Charlie and Hazel are members at St. Giles Presbyterian Church and memorial donations to either of these organizations would be appreciated by the family.
