Obituary of Maria Penner

On January 3, 2022, Maria Penner of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario found her eternal rest in the arms of her Saviour. She passed away peacefully at Greater Niagara General Hospital. She was born on November 1st, 1940 to Jakob and Margarete Quiring in Dolynivka (Adelsheim), Ukraine She was the youngest of three daughters. She married Peter on September 22, 1963, and they enjoyed 58 loving years together and graciously raised eight rambunctious children. 

Maria was devoted to her Lord and prayed daily for her children and grandchildren; that they too would find faith in Jesus. She had a passion for gardening, cooking, and baking for her children and grandchildren, serving all those around her, and warmly hosting anyone who walked through the door with a cup of tea and je’backniss (baked goods). She spent many hours tending to her gardens and loved growing beautiful roses.   

She was the loving mother of Jake & Lorraine Penner, Nellie & Werner Witzke, Henry Penner, Peter Penner, John & Melissa Jo Penner, Rudy & Valentina Penner, Irene & Wilf Witzke, and Mary & Dan Williamson. 

She will be sadly missed by her loving grandchildren; Katherine, Margarete & Phil, Elizabeth, Daniel, David, Jonathan, Rebecca, Eva, Logan, Nathan, Alison, Leah, Ruth, Jeremy, Joshua, Grace, Isaiah, Leanne, Emmalee, Olivia, Maya, and Jakob. 

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband Peter. She is survived by her close sister Adina & Oskar Schanbacher. She leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, extended family, treasured friends, and loving neighbours.

She is predeceased by her parents Jakob and Margarete Quiring, her sister Anni, her parents-in-law Heinrich and Margarete Penner, and three precious babies who held a special place in her heart.

Maria's family will recieve friends on Thursday, January 6th, 2022 from 6:00-8:00pm at Cornerstone Community Church - Orchard Campus (434 Hunter Rd, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON L0S 1J0)  Pre registration is required.  To register for visitation please follow this link. Visitation - Maria Penner
