Obituary of Kornelis Pieter VanBrakel
Van Brakel – Kornelis Pieter - February 4, 1933 – January 18, 2022

Safe in the arms of Jesus. With his loving wife by his side at Shalom Manor in Grimbsy, Kor passed on to glory.
He is survived his wife Joan (Vahrmeyer) of 63 years. His children Wendy (Bob) Teeuwsen, Nancy (Harry) Duerksen, Marlene (John) Teeuwsen, and Joanne (Ed) Boekestyn.
His siblings Rietᵻ (Edᵻ) Poortinga, Nell (Sidᵻ) Miedema, Magda (Herman) Jonker, and Pieter (Jane) van Brakel. As well as Joan’s siblings, Karlᵻ (Nettie) Vahrmeyer, Bas (Betty) Vahrmeyer, Mien (Corᵻ) Plugers, Riet (Dickᵻ) Schouten, Thys (Tina) Vahrmeyer, Bill (Tina) Vahrmeyer, and Ron (Audrey) Vahrmeyer.
He was loved and cherished by his 15 grandchildren, Derek (Carolyn) Teeuwsen, Jeff (Melissa) Teeuwsen, Matt (Danielle) Teeuwsen, Mike (Victoria) Teeuwsen, AnnElise (Andrew) Hoogendam, Lucas (Rela) Teeuwsen, Peter (Anna) Teeuwsen, Christina (Kurtis) DeVries, Steve Boekestyn, Richelle (Justin) Langendoen, Brooke (Timothy) Hultink, Thomas Boekestyn, Eddie (Emily) Lucciola, Kory Lucciola, and Jordan Lucciola. He was also admired by his 20 great grandchildren, as well as many nephews and nieces.
Kor was born in Piershil, Netherlands and moved to Rotterdam as a young boy. As a teenager he was in trade school for mechanical engineering. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 with his entire family. Kor met Joan, the love of his life in 1956 and they married in 1958. They had four beautiful girls. He first worked at Provincial Crane and later went to work at Ontario Hydro for almost 25 years. Kor was a jack of all trades, there was nothing he couldn’t do. He liked designing, wood working, building and his tools. You could always count on Kor for a good laugh, he had a great sense of humour. He was passionate about many things, he was involved in the church, Sunset homes, and Linhaven.
Unfortunately, due to the impact of Covid, there will be no visitation – however the family would love to receive any notes of sympathy, encouragement or shared experiences. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Beacon Christian School or Shalom Manor.
Private family interment will take place prior to the memorial service.
A private memorial service will be held at Immanuel United Reformed Church on Saturday, January 22 at 11:30pm. Again, due to covid restrictions, masks will be mandatory and the service will be limited to relatives and close friends only.
