I have very fond memories of your mother. She was such a sweet, loving woman and a gracious hostess. She loved having people in her home, even complete strangers. She was always so cheerful, a breath of fresh air!

I sing with Mary in the Victoria Gaelic choir and though I never met her mother we talked about her often and having read about her I see why she meant so much to Mary.
My condolences to Mary and family.

My sincerest condolences to Bill, Jane, Ted and Mary for the recent loss of your precious Mother. She was a ‘gem’ indeed. The last time I visited Kay at Albright from Vancouver where I live, she was still the same lady I grew up knowing – charming, caring and given her wonderful sense of humour, always with smiling eyes. Although she had not seen me in a few years, she was able to know whose daughter I was and even remembered my change of name without prompting. I was truly impressed. As a child I remember wonderful swims at the cottage lake, sing songs around the piano at the house on William Street and Bill, Kay, my Mom & Dad often laughing into the night playing Bridge at our house. One of my favourite stories of Kay has always been; as a very young bride and new to Beamsville, Kay going into the local butcher shop asking for chicken chests because she was too shy to say the word ‘breasts’. So Kay!
Unfortunately I am unable to attend the funeral October 1st but I will be there in spirit with you all and remembering Kay with great fondness.

The Rannie family has been a very special part of my life since Janie and I shared a room in first year at Queen’s. So I’m very sad to hear that Kay has passed away, and share your sense of loss. However, I feel lit up by remembering her as an elegant, witty and talented lady with a charming interest in people and zest for life which she evidently retained right to the end. Kay visited us in Wimbledon with AJ, so we all have happy memories and send our condolences and love to you all.

With my deepest condolences to the Rannie Family. I am going to sadly miss my visits with your mom. She was a very special, sweet, dear lady and even though she was 97 she was still full of laughter, humour and she certainly knew what she wanted at times. We had special moments together of laughter and sometimes Kay would put tears to my eyes. I will never forget that moment I assisted Kay to the bathroom and she stopped in her tracks and put her arm around me and her head on my shoulder and thanked me. Kay, your very welcome from the bottom of my heart! I will always remember you Kay, in all those special times we had together. Thank you, Kay for allowing me to be your special friend!

To all my Rannie cousins, So very sorry to learn from Jane of Aunt Babe's passing. I'm sure she and my Mom are in heaven sharing stories or creating some sort of mischief that they always did as they were growing up. I'll always treasure our visits with you all, your Mom, and AJ at AJ's cottage on Wolfe Island way back in the early 60's. Aunt Babe was my Mom's best friend for life. It was so good of her to keep in touch with me for as long as she was able. What a wonderful picture of her. Take good care of each other and hold on to the memories tightly. My love to you all, Pat

Kay Rannie was always so caring and interested in what other people were doing. She had the nicest way of asking about your life and what was important to you. She was always so encouraging. She invited my nephew, Gordon Ross, to celebrate his high school graduation with his parents, his brother and me at a lovely dinner at her cottage on Lake Ontario, many years ago. This was the way she was with her neighbours.Such a lively character - full of life - with so much kindness to offer. My sincere sympathy to all her children, family members and friends.

My condolences to Mary, Ted, and Bill. Kay was one of those rare unforgettable persons who light up everyone else's life. You'd see how an ordinary day made her joyful and think well, My life is joyful also. Her watercolour of our Ontario Street Beamsville house graces my memoir. She shared her interest in painting with my mother who valued her friendship.
I deeply regret that I am unable to attend the Celebration of Life. I assure you that her life spirit lives on in my memories and heart.

I had the honour of working at the Lincoln Post Express - my first step into the amazing world of media when I graduated from college. I worked with extraordinary people who helped shaped my understanding of work ethics and values. I'm still in media and still carry those lessons with me. I'm grateful to have worked for a family-owned newspaper and send my appreciation and sympathy to the Rannie family.
