Obituary of Grace Jean Hildreth

Hildreth, Grace Jean (nee Ponsford) August 22, 1942- February 1, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend Grace Hildreth (nee Ponsford) on Tuesday February 1, 2022 at home, aged 79 years. She leaves behind her loving husband and soulmate of 58 years, Jack. Mom's greatest legacy is her family that she leaves behind; her children Kevin (J.F.) Hildreth, Kelly (Tim) Berg, and Ken (Marie) Hildreth. She was the extremely proud and loving Grandma of Jaxson, Owen, and Gavin who will miss her dearly. She also leaves behind two loving sisters Verna Rusnak and Betty Coletti; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mom was born in Beaverdams, Ontario to Clarice and William Ponsford on August 22, 1942. Raised on a farm, she learned the true meaning of hard work and dedication. She attended Beamsville District Secondary School where she eventually met and fell in love with our Dad who also came from a long lineage of farming. After they married, they decided to purchase a farm together in St. Catharines and raise a family there. Mom worked hard on the farm alongside Dad; at the same time as raising us kids. She attended Louth United Church until it closed and helped teach Sunday School. Mom had a green thumb; loved plants and her garden and was a great cook and baker especially of pies. She also loved fishing trips with friends, trips in the winter down south, card parties, socializing with friends and family, and walks with her dogs. We were all so lucky to have shared our lives with mom and have learned so much by her example and strength.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. C. Reed, Meera Dave, Lisa Bath, and Mom’s caregivers Joyce, Grace, and Beverly. In keeping with Moms' wishes, cremation has taken place.  We will share future plans for Mom’s Celebration of Life. If so desired, donations can be made in Mom's memory to The Dementia Society or the Lincoln County Humane Society.
