Obituary of Emilia Kyle
EMILIA (EMILY) KYLE
1928 – 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Emily Kyle, on February 1, 2022. Emily was in her 94th year and was predeceased by loving husband Donald. She leaves daughters Susie, Mary (Jim), Shelley(Jeff) and Lori (Brian), and grandchildren Payton, Chloe and Audrey to cherish her memory.
She was born April 30, 1928 in Brokenhead, Manitoba, the 4th born of 7 children to Anastasia (Kushnir) and William Mosquin. She is survived by sister, Victoria Olchowecki of Saltspring Island, BC and brothers, Ted (Linda) of Lanark, ON, and Dan (Stephie) of Selkirk, MB as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Mary Molinski, and brothers John and Harry .
Like all children growing up on a farm, she learned responsibility early. There were animals to care for, large gardens to tend and grain fields to harvest. She learned to can garden produce and make jam from berry picking in the woods. She attended a three room rural school house to grade 11 and then left to work in Winnipeg and eventually made her way to Ontario where she met Don. Together, they built a home where they would raise their 4 girls.
Mom filled our home with love, as well as with the delicious smells of her wonderful cooking and baking. There was always something on the stove or in the oven with produce from the backyard garden or fruit trees and shelves full of canning in the cellar meant enjoying the harvest year round. Homemade soup and bread never needed a recipe. In the evenings, mom could be found in her chair knitting up an afghan or Nordic sweater or pondering the daily newspaper crossword puzzle.
She was patient and creative and enjoyed the challenge of different knitting or sewing projects, whether that was helping her girls fix their Home Economics projects or sewing our choice of unique prom dresses and Halloween costumes. Mom loved flowers and there was always something blooming on window sills throughout the house year-round, from carefully tended African violets to geranium cuttings and orchids.
She was an avid 5 pin bowler and enjoyed her weekly games with the ladies at Dorado Lanes and she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. We looked forward to summer road trips to Manitoba for the annual family picnic where Mom’s bowling skills showed in the bocce tournament. Once Dad retired, they enjoyed taking cruises together to the East Coast, Alaska, and the Caribbean.
Family celebrations and holidays meant countless hours enjoying jigsaw puzzles together on the dining room table with a belly full of Mom’s incredible food.
After Dad’s passing, Mom moved to Martindale Place and enjoyed the company of new friends. She appreciated the caring sense of community it brought to her life with all the activities and social events, particularly the Thursday evening hymn singing and the festive holiday luncheons with entertainment.
Mom’s intelligence, ingenuity and amazing sense of humour will be dearly missed by family and friends.
As per Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family funeral at a later date.
If so desired, donations can be made in Emily’s memory to Niagara Nutrition Partners.
