Obituary of Philip Wayne Pew

Philip Wayne Pew

May 21, 1941- May 10, 2022

It is with profound sadness and grateful blessing that Philip passed peacefully on Tuesday May 10, 2022 in his 80th year after a short battle with Alzheimer’s at the United Mennonite Home in Vineland.

Beloved husband of Carol Isabel Pew (nee Henderson), brother of Norman (Gloria), Douglas (Candice) and Lenard (Margaret). Loving father to Wanda (David) and Jason (Tanya) and very proud grandpa to Christian, Avery and Alyssa.

Born on May 21st in the ancestorial farm home in Lowbanks, he was the second of four brothers. Always the hard worker, Philip continued with farming moving to Wainfleet making a home for his family of four enjoying the pace of country living. In his career he held several trade positions as an overhead crane operator, roofing and finally entering the steel industry as a millwright and welder at J.Oskam Fabricators Ltd in Port Colborne.

Keeping up the family tradition of farming, he enjoyed a hobby farm, loved wood working and both playing and coaching hockey. Like so many in Ontario, was fanatical with the ups and downs of his Toronto Maple Leafs.

In retirement; he enjoyed travel with his true love Carol; which brought them so many life experiences which will be forever cherished.

Most notably, Philip is known for his loving heart, kind and gentle disposition always giving himself freely to those who are in need in both support and love. Words can never replace his warm presence and distinct whitty character.

Cremation has taken place; with the family holding a visitation at the Vineland Chapel of Tallman Funeral Homes (3277 King St. Vineland) on Friday 20 May, 2022 from 6-8pm for family and friends to grieve and celebrate his life. A private family interment will occur in the future at the Vineland Cemetery.

So many people to thank for Phil’s care throughout the years. Dr. Blake, Dr.Curnew, Dr Safranyos, and Dr. Woodland. As well as the countless amazing PSW staff at the LHIN and Rose Cottage visitors during his illness progression at home. Special thanks to the all the loving and caring staff at United Mennonite Home

The family asks that in lieu of flowers; memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region or Rose Cottage Visiting Volunteers (Beamsville)
