Obituary of Jakob Wiens
Jakob “Jake” Wiens of St. Catharines passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Niagara Health, St. Catharines Site in his 90th year.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Rosemarie Wiens (nee Bleich), children Susan Gruhl, Joanne (Peter) Secord, Nancy (Ian) Vickers and David (Susan) Wiens, his grandchildren Alicia (Ryan), Justine (David), Jamie (Caity), Jasmine (Max), Carden, Morgan, Madelyn, Matthew and Jakob and great grandchildren Liam and Noah.
Jakob will be missed by friends and extended family members especially his older sister Agathe Pahl and sisters-in-law Christel Holder, Leni Bleich and Erika Kraft. He is predeceased by his parents Abraham and Agatha and brothers Peter and Albert.
Originally from Klubnikovo in the Ural Mountains, Russia. He immigrated to Canada in his 17th year to the Niagara Region.
Jakob met his wife Rosemarie through his best friend Werner Bleich. Jake and Rosie married 24 January 1953. Together they shared a love for the outdoors, camping for many years in Restoule and Temagami. Since Covid Jake and Rosie spent much of their time together playing games and enjoying coffee at Port Dalhousie.
Jakob worked for McKinnon (GM) and then changed jobs working for W Bleich and Son Construction. Jakob helped build homes doing a variety of jobs such as tile laying. At 41 Jake hurt his back and became a stay-at-home Dad, babysitting grandchildren, cooking, building and fixing things for his children’s homes.
Jakob was a quiet, kind man who spent his time riding his bike to Tim Horton’s to catch up with his friends. He had a love for classical music and reading the paper daily. His love of the outdoors and hunting was passed down to his children and grandchildren.
Jakob was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. For many years Jakob drove the church bus for Sunday School and for church events.
Friends and relatives are invited for a visitation from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday December 15, 2022 at Tallman Funeral Homes in Vineland (3277 King St., Vineland). A second visitation will be held at Grace Lutheran Church (213 Linwell Rd, St. Catharines) at 10:00 am on Friday, December 16, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Grace Lutheran Church, St. Catharines with reception to follow. Officiated by Pastor Juritsch. Interment will be held at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill.
