Obituary of Norbert Mertens

Every once and a while, you run across someone in your life that you feel an automatic connection with.  I was lucky enough to have someone like that as a father and best friend.  Around 59 years ago, my mother and him chose me.  They adopted me.  He spent his entire life working hard as a commercial plumber to provide for his family.  He loved to work, and he understood how to treat people.  He never wavered in his love for me, and my sister and of course his wife of almost 65 years.  He was always fair to everyone, and if you helped him with something or you did a good job for him, you were rewarded for it 10 fold.  Well, at just before 1:00am he went to a better place at the age of 88 years as we were with him.  If you knew him, please have a good thought and a prayer for him.  Rest in Peace dad, we all love you and you have left a gaping hole in many hearts.  Thanks for everything, especially for not giving up on me when my life could have been a lot different, virtually saving my life.  I love you.

Mertens, Norbert - On January 26, 2023.  Survived by his wife Joan of 64 years, father of John (Dianne), Therese (Jeff).  Also survived by granddaughters Holly (Dale), Brittany (Jay) and great grandchildren Charlie, Elliott, Abigail, Emery and baby boy on the way.  He was uncle to Uwe, Manuela, Bill (Rhonda). He was also survived by many other extended family and friends.  He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.  Cremation has taken place.
