Obituary of Aganeta Schmidt

Aganeta Schmidt

Born on August 12^th, 1938 to John and Elizabeth Isaac in Alexanderfeld, Ukraine. She was one of five children John and Elizabeth had. Her two younger sisters both passed away at a very young age. One in 1942 at 1 year 8 months of age and the other in 1948 at 4 years of age. Through the horrors of war, her father was scripted into the army and separated from her and her family for many years.  This left her mom to raise the kids on her own moving or being moved around the country from place to place in what was then known as Russia. Her father, eventually after the war and through a miracle of its own, wound up in Canada, where he started the process of re-uniting his family. 

In 1958 when Aganeta was in Kasakstan (then part of Russia) she met and married Peter Schmidt with whom she had four boys, John, Peter, Billy and Henry. In 1969 she and her family moved to Estonia, from where, in September of 1973, they were able to move to Canada and be re-united with her dad and the rest of her family who had managed to get to Canada a few years before her. 

In 1996, with great sadness she lost her husband Peter to cancer. 

Following this, she was predeceased by her father, John Isaac (2003) and her mother, Elizabeth Isaac (2011).

In her professional life, Aganeta spent her time working as a cook in camps and restaurants but most notable was her 27 years in the Tabor Manor kitchen, where she worked with her sister Tina. 

In her personal life, Aganeta loved to cook, bake and can food.  It was her greatest pleasure to share this food and spend time with her family.

Aganeta was a devoted Christian and believed in Jesus Christ as her lord and savior.  She loved her family and was a kind, warm and devoted wife and mother.  She will be deeply missed by those who loved her in return.

Aganeta is survived by her children, John (Shelley), Peter (Barbara), Billy (Betsy) and Henry and cherished grandchildren Tina, Mike and Sarah.  She is also survived by her dear sister Tina and brother John (Frieda) and many nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends at the Scott Street Mennonite Brethren Church, 339 Scott Street, St.Catharines, on Thursday, March 2, at 9:30am, with the funeral service held at 11:00am .
