Obituary of Peter Dyck

After a long and full life Peter Dyck went to be with his Lord on April 17, 2023 at the United Mennonite Home, Vineland, Ontario, at 100 years of age.

He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family. Predeceased by his wife Mary (Neudorf) in 2014 and survived by his two daughters Wanda (Cal) Knights of Stouffville and Diana (Denis) Lantin of St. Catharines, three grandchildren Erin and Kyle Toth, Joel and Lara Knights, Lacey and Everett Luciow and four great grandchildren. Also survived by brothers Frank and George and sister Helen. Predeceased by brothers John and Henry.

Born December 18, 1922 in Rosenthal, Chortitza, Ukraine, he came with his parents to Canada in 1923 and settled in Saskatchewan. Peter moved to St. Catharines in 1947 and married his sweetheart Mary Neudorf in January 1948.

He worked for 33 years at General Motors and had a long and fulfilling retirement of 43 years!

Peter served in various roles at Grace Mennonite Church where he was a charter member. He also enjoyed serving as treasurer for the Ontario Conference of Mennonite Churches which included attending many conferences.

 During the early years of retirement he drove for an airport limousine service and as a volunteer driver for the Children’s Aid Society and Cancer Society. He and Mary enjoyed travelling and his love of driving took them all through North America including 9 provinces, 2 territories and 50 states, as well as travels to Europe, Israel, the Caribbean and South America. He also used his skills of being able to fix anything at the MCC Benefit shop. 

Many winters were spent at their home in Florida where he enjoyed spending time with his friends at coffee times, playing cribbage, games of pool and of course driving to explore the area. They hosted many friends and family members over the years. Until he turned 90 they still took some road trips to Florida and other places closer by. 

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 26 11:00 at Grace Mennonite Church, 677 Niagara St, St. Catharines. Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 following private internment.

Memorial donations may be made to  Mennonite Central Committee.
