Obituary of Warren Royce Saunders

Warren Royce Saunders passed away peacefully on April 20th, 2023 in the comfort of his home in Beamsville, with family by his side.

Born on March 23 1921 he had just celebrated his 102nd birthday.  He leaves behind his daughter Ann-Marie and son Leslie and son in law Peter.  He joins his wife Ivy and son Warren Royce Jr.  Predeceased by sisters Gladys, Vera, Ruby and Margaret, and brothers Danny, Arthur and Bernie, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their children.

Warren grew up in Hamilton and worked for 45 years at Stelco’s Open Hearth.  In 1965 he and Ivy moved to Beamsville where they purchased a small fruit farm and raised their family.  Together they grew tender fruit, selling it at numerous Farmer’s Markets in southern Ontario. As pioneering grape growers they also contributed to the making of some of Canada's finest wines.  Apart from his amazing longevity Warren was noted for his warm connections with a multitude of friends, strong work ethic, sense of humor and concern for others. He attributed his long life to his positive outlook. Saying "you just gotta keep moving", driving his pickup truck till he was 100 and meeting his friends at the local watering holes.

There will be a small private service held for the family, with a Celebration of Life gathering planned for a later date.
