Obituary of Jim Mercer
Mercer, James (Jim) – (Aug 6,1940 - June 28, 2023)
Today was a good day to die. After living for 82 years, and being married to a wonderful woman for 57 of those years, I decided it was time to pack up my tent and call it a day. Before moving on though, I must say a few words about the woman who fought by my side in a running battle with cancer for 20 years, with 3 years of kidney stones thrown in for good measure.
I loved her from the day I met her. She stood by me through thick and thin and helped me up when I fell down. Thank you Marg.
Another ray of sunshine entered my life when my daughter Vikki was born. A beautiful baby who grew up into an attractive young lady. A lover of cats and pandas, and any other stray animals that happened by. She also makes great turkey stuffing.
Another lady I wish to mention is Mary Hlywka, my sister-in-law. I consider her a class act and one of the kindest and most considerate people I have ever known.
My half brother and sister (twins) John and Judy round out any other family I wish to mention.
The man I consider to be my best friend, Bob Norris, is scaring me, knowing that he is out there running around without me. Boy, did we have some good times.
I was a steamfitter with Local 67 for 63 years and that enabled me and my family to enjoy a good life.
I was a member of the Masonic organization for many years, which helped to smooth off any rough edges I still had from my earlier days. It's been quite a life.
Never having died before, I can only guess what lies ahead. I'm grateful that I was able to spend my final days at McNally House Hospice with such caring and compassionate staff, and the volunteers.
Please send all disagreements to this obit to the dead letter office, in care of James A. Mercer "I'll get back to you"
