Obituary of Walter Marttila

Marttila, Rev. Walter R.  - Rev. Walter R Marttila passed away July 20, 2023 in Beamsville, Ontario in his 89th year. Born in Sudbury on April 10, 1935, son of Eino and Lulu Marttila, (predeceased). Big brother to Robert (Joanne) and David (Sharon ) (both brothers predeceased) . Devoted husband of Margaret (nee Nelles) for almost 67 years. Wise and loving father of Glen (Karen), Margot Stone (Gerald) and Paul (Jen). Loving and delighted grandpa of Matthew (Jackie Waters),  Emily (Terry Bell), Thomas, Meghan, Spencer and Natalie. Great grandpa to Avery and Teddy.

Walter was an ordained minister with the United Church of Canada, serving several congregations in Ontario, spending many of those years in the Burlington area where he also applied his leadership as chairman of the board at Joseph Brant Hospital for a term. He went on to work as New Church Development Officer for Halton Presbytery and as minister and trainer with the Interim Ministry Network of North America.

At the time of his death, Walter was a resident at Albright Manor Long Term Care Residence. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Nursing and Support Staff for their attentive and compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place.

A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at Vineland United Church, 4402 Victoria Ave, Vineland at 2 pm on July 28, 2023. A time of visitation with family will occur at 1 pm at the church prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Vineland United Church or the plant a tree project.
