It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Josephine Margaret Vickers (nee Nelligan) at McNally House Hospice in Grimsby, Ontario at the age of 86. Josie was predeceased by her beloved husband Dr. Norman Vickers and her son Joseph Vickers. She was also predeceased by her sisters Ann Grasley and Joan Young, brother Michael Nelligan, parents Joseph and Lorraine Nelligan, her stepchildren Norman Jr., Nancy Vickers, and Sally Jo Vickers.
Josie will be missed by her brothers John and Sam (Marlene) Nelligan, and stepdaughter Carma (Patrick) McKay (Vickers). Josie was loved by her many nieces and nephews and an amazing group of loving friends.
Josie was born in Hamilton, raised on Hamilton Beach and lived nearly 60 years on their beautiful Beamsville wine district acreage. As a child Josie was curious, loved words and learning. Her keen love for learning remained throughout her life. She was known for her style, sense of humour and well-honed quick wit.
In her earlier years, Josie loved to sail with Norm, ski in Europe, travel, play tennis and her latest passion was golf. She was very proud of her hole in one.
Josie spent many winters in Longboat Key, Florida with her beloved Norm. She loved to entertain and threw fabulous dinner parties for her friends in Longboat and Beamsville.
Josie believed in and lived a life of kindness. She would say, “Create the life that you want to live”. She enjoyed a long life that was lived well and to the fullest.
A special thank you to the exceptional doctors, nurses and volunteers at the McNally House Hospice.
Memorial donations may be made to the McNally House Hospice, Grimsby, Ontario.
